Fake steps..

So I've set my Versa 2 as being placed on my dominant wrist to reduce sensitivity but I've still just gained 80 steps brushing my teeth! Are there any plans for Fitbit to use the step data from the mobile phone it's synced with? Mobile phone steps are clearly more accurate. The steps counter being so ridiculously off the mark makes me question the accuracy of other the functions on this thing, plus the fact my GPS/maps keeps stalling since installing the fitbit app and only works again after uninstalling the app makes me think it's more of a hindrance than a useful tool.

Hi @Lee_Gallagher , you could see it also another way: the Versa 2 is very sensitive to actions that mimick walking, like brushing your teeth by which you move your wrist in a manner (for- and backwards) that looks like walking. That's why I'm always taking off my Versa 2 when doing these kind of actions. It's the way these devices are build. Regards kuzibri

See How accurate are Fitbit devices?

If your main concern is getting steps exactly precise, nothing worn on the wrist is going to fit your needs. But the Versa is more than just a pedometer.

If the versa is programed to pull the steps data that is produced by my phone (which is backed up by gps and very accurate) then surely it would be a much better rounded solution?

My main concern here is the calories burned figure that is being produced by fitbit.. If this calories burned number is generated based on the fitbits highly inaccurate generated number of steps it's going to be way off the mark. For people trying to lose fat, gain muscle and work on their fitness and physique, calories in vs calories out needs to be relatively accurate which makes a fitbit a non solution unless they use accurate data

Calories are based on heart rate, not steps.

Perhaps your use is different but I often set my phone down as I walk around my house.

But in any case, that is not how Fitbit works.

But if steps from phone is what you really want, perhaps you should be using

Mobile Track without a tracker, though I think the phones it works with are limited.
