Fitbit Update: 9/16

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.1, available for Versa and Versa Lite

(Firmware Version: 68.9.12).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

This release includes bug fixes and improvements.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Thanks for breaking my notification vibration alerts.  Was the only thing I liked about this inaccurate overpriced watch.  Hopefully some sucker will buy it off me 2nd hand.

Add me to the list of users who are no longer receiving any notifications following the firmware upgrade not even the hourly move reminders.    I no longer have a smartwatch just a watch that counts steps.  Please fix this bug asap Fitbit.

@jmoore69 lol, counts steps?  It fails at that too, even before the update.

@Caz29 @avocadotoast @ukmight @Laszlo52 @dave_in_ni @Leigh7 Hey everyone!

I know you're all eager to see what new introductions this firmware update brings. What I can confirm at this moment, is that the UI(user interface) will match what is available for Versa 2. This brings parity across all our smartwatches on this new firmware.

In addition, Spotify isn't available for Versa/Ionic users yet, but it will be coming soon. Once Spotify rolls out to everyone, I can announce it here in this thread. Stay tuned for that update!

@bystrom91 Hey, there! Sorry to hear you've had some issues after updating to this new firmware. I recommend plugging the watch into the charger for a bit and then trying a restart again. Let me know how it goes.

@Fit-Bit-User-90 Hi! Currently, there isn't a way to force a new firmware. You can only begin to download the firmware once it has been pushed out to you. When it's available for download, you will see a pink banner in the app prompting you to update. We roll out new firmware in stages to ensure a smooth process for all users. We expect to have this out to everyone in the coming weeks or even sooner. Just keep the app up to date and once it's available to you, go ahead and download it.

Since this new update I cannot control my music from my versa.  It worked fine before the updated.  I removed versa classic from Bluetooth on phone and tried pairing again.  Phone doesn't see it.  Versa music just keep saying pair phone.  When I go on walks I like pausing or skipping to next song from my versa.  Now I cannot do that.

Go to settings on the versa. Under Bluetooth tap "restore music controls" until it says pair. On your phone search for Bluetooth devices. Pair with Versa (Classic).

Okay, after trying a couple of times that finally connected. I can now control my music on my phone. Thanks

UPDATE:  Well, you can get it to connect, but it will not stay connected and does not connect automatically. Each time I have to go to Versa Bluetooth settings to Restore Music Controls and turn on pair.  Then on my phone to Bluetooth setting and to previously connected devices and tell it to connect to Versa (Classic).  It does connect, but the pair still shows on Versa.  You do not dare try to change it to "on".  To get to "on" you have to touch it twice, it goes to off and then to on.  The problem once it goes to off it will disconnect.  So right after it connects by pairing I go to Music Controls on my Versa.  And the control works, but only for a few minutes, then disconnects.  When you go back into the Versa Bluetooth setting you will see the Music Controls in on "off".  If I turn it on and try to have my phone connect to it, it will not connect.  This feature worked fine before this update.

I use my Versa for this feature, heart rate and to automatically record walks or other exercises to the app.  I still wear my Fitbit One every day for my steps. I have my app set so the Fitbit One steps override the Versa steps.  Why...because the Fitbit One counts steps better.  I can take to 2 1/2 miles walk and sync both before I leave so they read the same.  When I get back the Versa will be at least 1,000 steps behind the Fitbit One, even though I make sure I move my arms when I walk.  The count on the Fitbit One is what you would expect for 2 1/2 miles and the steps on the Versa are too low.  When you are trying to hit 10,000 steps each day and you are losing 1,000 to 2,000 steps a day that is a big deal.  I will be very sad when my Fitbit One dies.  I have had it since 2014.

Those are the steps i followed to get the controls working again. Make sure the source in the music quick settings is set to phone. I'm also playing music from my phone.

My versa is running in cycles of all processes out of the blue.  I reset it only to have it happen over and over.  I am very disappointed and frustrated at this time.  I just purchase this watch when my surge refused to charge any longer.  Too much money for a watch that malfunctions.  Very disappointed.

yes this is exactly what mine is doing.  It is almost brand new.  So very disappointed.

And now my watch won't stayed paired for music control for more the 5 min at a time.

You've literally broken this watch completely.  No more notifications, no more music control.... What's the point of this firmware that breaks everything?

Is there a way to roll back firmware?  I want to go back to when my $200 smartwatch was a **ahem** smartwatch and not a $200 junk digital watch.

Bad me for not reading these message before I updated my Versa firmware two nights ago! I had trusted that the new firmware was fully tested. I loved my Versa for the fitness tracker and most of all...the notifications. After the firmware update, I get no notifications at all! No calls, no text...nothing. Very disappointed. I have done a factory reset. I have rebooted both my Versa and phone several times. I reinstalled the Fitbit app. I unpaired and re-paired. Nothing. I sure hope there is an update to fix this notification problem very soon. It is NOT the way to get us to upgrade to the Versa 2!!!!

Took time to breath and tried one last thing...I uninstalled the Fitbit app, then reinstalled it. I reset the notifications via the app, made sure all the permissions were active and then the notifications worked again! Thank goodness! Only thing not working is the notification for calls.

I have to say that I've been getting notifications reliably since the Firmware update. Hope it stays like that. Previously I was losing notifications randomly for a day or two before they started working again for a day or two.

Haven't faced any notification issues since the update.

But when logging runs or walks using the connected gps, the watch seems to be constantly underestimating the distance.

This wasn't the case before the update. The GPS points are logged correctly and I can say that as by using the distance correction on Strava, the distance then comes to be alright.

I have not been able to pair my versa lite since the update.  Have restarted phone and ipad,  reloaded the app on both,  and factory restart on versa.  Still not able to pair.  My old HR is working.  This is my second versa lite.  First one just quit, and now this one which is only 6 months old will not pair.  Seriously thinking about getting an apple 3.

Just last night, I stopped receiving text notifications. I still get call and email notifications, just not text. I did ALL the troubleshooting tips and spent about 45 min chatting with someone to redo all the troubleshooting and still not working. So frustrating!
