Floors counted.

Hi

I've mapped out a route to walk through MapMyWalk, with the route having a gain of 136ft. My question is, will my Fitbit credit me with 13 floors climbed? The route is around a residential estate with climbs and declines as normal.

Thanks

Hi @Tom92  The floor counter works on air pressure changes while you are exercising, so it should be close, though depending on the weather may not be 100% accurate

Thanks for your reply, would keeping my Fitbit in my pocket make this more accurate? I also log my walks as an exercise but wasn't sure if floors are still counted during exercise's being logged or not?

Thank you for your help!

I'm a regular hiker and find that it's not ideal to use tracked floors as a measure of elevation gain.

The problem is that you only get a floor when it detects that you gained 10 feet whilst walking. If you stop or the ground levels out before the 10 feet is complete then that floor is lost. So, if it's a continuous slope and you do not pause your walking then it would be close. In practice the floors are likely to show less than the true elevation gain.

I believe that if you log a walk then the tracked floors will not be affected

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your answer! Is there a way to disable floors tracking for this period or will I have to accept this may be inaccurate?

Thanks again

I don't believe there's any way to disable floor tracking.
