GPS does not match steps-Versa

I have been using my Fitbit Versa since August of 2018 with no issues.  She nice the last software update my mileage has been logging substantially higher than the steps necessary to achieve that distance.  I do us GPS on my iPhoneX.  I am 5’4” and it takes more than 2,000 steps for me to walk a mile.  Today, my distance says 6.83 miles with only 11,107 steps.  This is not possible for my stature.
