Heart Rate sensor and tattoos.

I have not been able to track my heart rate consistently. At first, I thought it was not on tight enough or sweat was interacting with the sensor. I have read through topics and troubleshot it all! I am now curious if anyone else has issues with the HRM sensor not detecting HR properly in areas that are tattooed. I have a full sleeve tattoo that covers my wrist and on my NON-dominant wrist. This is the wrist I'd prefer to wear my Fitbit but I'm wondering if I need to switch wrists. The only problem is that I have had another tattoo close to my wrist. Any thoughts???

For reference, I have a Fitbit Versa Lite and Versa 2 and I tried one of my kiddos' smartwatche and it seemed to act the same, not detecting my HR.

Hi @SOconnell - Yes, you are right in thinking you need to wear your Fitbit on your other wrist if you can keep it away from the tattoo there. If you google “fitness trackers, tattoos,” you will see that tattoos can interfere with many different fitness trackers, not just Fitbits.

Thank you! Makes sense to me but kind of a bummer. I'm glad it isn't my Fitbit!  appreciate your message 😉

This is an absolute joke - I'm getting my other wrist tattooed soon and their answer is "the best place to make your voice heard is the community".

So basically because of my choices of tattoos I am now no longer able to use fitbit. What a load of crap!!
