How is distance tracking done?

I assume that when GPS is on during an exercise (in my case, Run or Walk), that distance is calculated using the GPS. How is it calculated when you are not during an exercise?

@RogerL50  Distance when not using GPS is done using your stride length. Your stride length is in your profile page: https://www.fitbit.com/settings/profile

Scroll down until you see stride length and then use the drop down menu to either have it set automatically (this is done whenever you use GPS track a walk or run) or you can manually set your stride length.

I figured that was the case. Thanks.

@RogerL50   You can also customize your stride length on the mobile app.  Tap on your profile picture (avatar) > scroll down to Activity & Wellness > Exercise > Stride Length.  The default setting is automatic, based on average dta from people of all heights.  Most people don't need to adjust their stride lengths, unless they have an unusual gait.
