You do not need your phone with you unless you want to use GPS tracking. HERE is the User Manual.

@Danbak Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I hope you're doing well! It is really easy if you wish to track an exercise with your Versa. Find the exercise app, open it and look for the type of exercise you wish to track (swipe through the different options). After this tap on the activity and then on the play icon. Like @SunsetRunner said you will need your phone if you wish to record GPS data. You can definitely check the manual (and download it too!) so you can get familiar with your tracker.
Let me know how it goes!

Hello,
If I choose to leave my phone at home and not use connected GPS - will my Versa still be able to keep track on my pace, how long i've run for, how fast I ran, etc?

Yes to all of the above and much more with the possible exception of "how fast I ran" if you mean MPH, and even that can be calculated by you with the data that is available. See the User Manual referenced in my post above.

But the exercise app only has like 5 different types and it doesn't even have sports. What if I want to track sports? Seems like for a FITNESS tracker, doesn't have many options. Im kinda disappointed from changing from Apple Watch. I could use different tracking apps from it and could log ANY type of workout.

@Sharonid Welcome! It's nice to have you on board! You can have 7 activity shortcuts on you Versa but you can choose from a larger list (check the image for reference). You can follow the instructions in my previous post to change these settings.
