I'm getting all type of notifications but e-mail

I have a Versa with Samsung s8 running Oreo 8. All notifications were working for 2 weeks but emails stopped working 2 days ago.  Have tried all solutions posted in Fitbit paper on fixing this problem.  I was receiving gmail as well as other email through @Email app. I have logged a service ticket on online Fitbit chat but agent had no clue what could be causing this.  My wife also has Versa and same phone and specs and email stopped working on hers as well. It is weird that all other notifications work including text, phone, at bat, eBay, etc, but not email.

any ideas? This is frustrating since I upgraded from a blaze that worked flawlessly.

I actually got my email notifications working again. I noticed that while I was seeing notifications on my phone and lock screen that I wasn't hearing a sound. I did some research and found this is an android oreo 8.0 problem.  I dug into the gmail settings and found that I could get the sound back if I set the email importance to high which reactivated the sound and voila, my gmail's were appearing on the versa.

Hey @Silverjoe1, welcome aboard! Sounds odd that you are getting all the notifications but e-mail on your Versa. So I'd like you to confirm with me the following settings on your phone:

  • Android version—Verify that the Android version is 4.4 or higher. Find this setting under About Phone or About Device.
  • Bluetooth—Bluetooth technology allows your phone to communicate with the Fitbit device. Verify that Bluetooth is on.
  • Do Not Disturb—This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off. Find this setting under Sound and notification.
  • Notifications—Your phone must be set to receive notifications before they can be sent to your Fitbit device. Check these settings:
    • Make sure your phone receives notifications while locked. Find this setting under Sound and notification.
    • If your Fitbit device can receive app notifications, make sure you can receive app notifications on your phone. For example, you can receive Facebook notifications on your Fitbit device, but only if you also receive them on your phone. Find the notifications permissions under Sound and notification.
    • Make sure the Fitbit app is allowed to run in the background on your phone. For more information, see Why is the Fitbit app sending a notification to my Android phone?

After that, I'd like you to follow these steps to set up notifications from the beginning:

SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP

Set up the notifications you want to receive on your wrist. Make sure your charged Fitbit device is nearby.

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon User-added image
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Tap the type of notification you'd like to receive (Text Messages, Calendar Events, Emails, or App Notifications), and make sure it's turned on.
  4. Choose which apps can send notifications to your Fitbit device. For example, if you'd rather see text messages from WhatsApp than Messages, change the Text messaging (SMS) app setting. (You can only choose 1 app per category.) This list shows the most common apps for these features:
    • Phone app—Dialer
    • Text messaging (SMS) app—Messages
    • Calendar app—Calendar
    • Email—Email
  5. If your Fitbit device can receive notifications from other apps on your phone, tap App Notifications and make your choices.
  6. If you want to require that only encrypted notifications can pass from your phone to your Fitbit device:
    1. Go back to the Notifications screen and tap Require encryption.
    2. Close and reopen the Fitbit app to start the bonding process required for sending encrypted data.
    3. If the bonding process fails, tap Re-enable and try again. Most phones bond immediately or after a few tries, but some phones can’t bond to your Fitbit device. See the list of devices with known issues at What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android device?
  7. If you receive messages in a language that doesn't use the Latin alphabet, for example Cyrillic or Arabic languages, your messages may not appear properly on your Fitbit device. To automatically convert unsupported characters into the closest Latin equivalent, tap Enable Transliteration.
  8. Sync your device.

TURN ON THE DEVICE'S NOTIFICATION SETTING

  • Ionic & Versa—Press and hold the back button and swipe left to access the quick settings screen. Make sure you can receive notifications from your phone.

Notifications should appear on your device when it's near your phone (about 30 feet). If notifications are delayed or missing, see My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.

Let me know if that works!

Hi:

I am on android 8.0.0 on a Samsung galaxy s8 and I have verified that everything is set up correctly. Do not disturb is not turned on, though It has been turned on and Fitbit automatically turned back on notifications outside the do not disturb schedule.   I have also tried every step on the Fitbit paper on things to try if notifications don’t work.  This is really weird because all other notifications work, i.e. phone, text, at bat, ebay, accuweather, etc.  Only emails don’t come through. When I initially set up the versa ( I am coming from a blaze which I removed from Fitbit account) all notifications worked including email until about 3 or 4 days ago.  No settings on phone were changed.  Did Fitbit push through an update that broke this?  I know that I was originally on Fitbit app 2.69 and at sometime I did update to 2.70.  What’s also strange is that my wife also has a versa and she is still on 2.69 and her email notifications stopped working also.

Here are a couple of observations.  I received gmail, and I also had @Email clicked for my other non gmail account.  Both were working.  One of the new features in android oreo 8.0.0 is the trusted device feature which keeps the phone from locking when the versa is in the vicinity of the phone, so phone doesn’t get to lock screen except when phone restarted.

Someone else said on this board that some notifications stopped working after taking the clear notifications option on the versa.  I had taken that option around the time that emails stopped working.

The only thing I haven’t tried is to do a full factory reset, which I hesitate to do as I have downloaded a number of apps from the app gallery.  I would like to wait on this until I hear from development that they can’t fix the problem.

Thanks for your interest.

Was having same problem on Galaxy S8 - discovered issue = Gmail setting

In Gmail phone app:  Settings>General Settings>Manage notifications

The slider was set to off on my phone - Versa e-mail notifications working perfectly once I turned it on!

The more I use Versa the better I like it - tried Fitbit pay today, very slick!

After staying on chat fitbit for over an hour, I got the text and calls to work; however, no emails....The only way I can receive emails (gmail)  (and not all of them) is when I plug my phone into android auto in my car!  My phone uses android 9.0.  Any suggestions?  NO problem with emails , etc  with my old Pebble round watch.

Help!

I too have similar issues.

Got my versa for Xmas so very much a newbie and running it off my Samsung S8.

All was fine til 2 days ago when I stopped getting email notifications. The problem is with email not Gmail. Makes a noise on my phone when message arrives but nothing on my watch.

Am I missing something? Checked all the settings and they seem fine. Getting WhatsApp, Facebook etc, just not this one, reasonably important, app. 🙁
