Sent the following query to customer support but they haven't responded:
So can/may I swim with the replacement? Your customer support people say it's "water resistant" to 40 meters, which of course makes no sense. It's either waterproof to 40 meters or it's water resistant which means it won't be damaged if it gets a little wet. My last two (2!) died while I was swimming so...
Waiting with bated breath for your response.

Totally not waterproof or water resistant, forgot to take mine off yesterday had just got in the pool had the watch maximum 15cm under water for approx 5 seconds it died immediately still no life in it 24 hours later
I bought it new 22 months ago so not under guarantee anymore but still very disappointed it is completely false advertising to state that it is anything like water resistant a few people have said they had no problem but so many more are saying the opposite …..so buyer beware

The term waterproof isn't really used these days as nothing is 100% waterproof in all conditions. Instead, the term water resistant is used with an indication of the conditions under which it is safe to use. In the case of the Versa 2, it is fine as long as long as you don't go beyond a depth of 50 meters. So, for swimming, it's fine. See: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1598.htm

Hi @h2oflyer - have a look in the forums at all the issues with water ingression and faces falling off and if it is outside warranty it would be a risk swimming with it. It depends also on how the watch has been treated, they don't like hot water or soap or products, and how old it is.
Given that it is most likely a refurbished replacement you don't know how old it actually is nor what life it had before.

They link is to what Fitbit says
One thing I and the standards disagree with is using in the shower where it is possible that the water pressure can be to much.
Please remember that the standards are with perfectly calm water. Streams and hers in pools and hot tubs may not be the best, also hot water could affect the glue.
As for the term waterproof, by definition it should be impervious to any depth or pressure, which no watch will ever be.
All standards use water resistant since at some depth it will fail.

Hello,
The same happened to me today. I did not check before. I was absolutely sure that I can swim with it. Is dead. So, what now? Trash?
Thank you,
Z.

@Zbyszeks - do not charge it. Dry it out for a week in some rice, it may recover and work, mine did but the battery life was never the same, though it worked fine otherwise.
When you do charge it finally make sure it does not get hot which can occur if there was severe damage inside. There can be a risk of fire or explosion.
If it is still under warranty, 1 or 2 years depending on country law, take it back for replacement under warranty.
