My Versa 2 loses Media Control function after a short while

My Versa 2 paired to a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra consistently loses the Media playback control ability on my phone after re pairing the device as "Versa 2 (Classic)" after a short while. Unpairing "Versa 2 (Classic)", setting the Versa 2 to "pair" mode, and triggering a re pair to the phone does restore the media control playback function for a very short time, usually under an hour...and then despite REMAINING paired to the phone as "Versa 2 (Classic)" (there is no loss of pairing), the playback control function vanishes again.

I've tried...

Rebooting the Versa 2, and re pairing. The media control function would be restored immediately after, but only for a short while

Rebooting the phone and re pairing. Again, the media control function would be restored immediately after, but only for a short while.

Rebooting both at nearly the same time, and re pairing. Again, the media control function would be restored immediately after, but only for a short while.

I use a bluetooth headset while doing any outside activity, and also have media streaming via Bluetooth, in addition to just using the phone itself. A re pairing operation will restore media control via the Versa 2 for a short while when streaming to any of these bluetooth devices, but again, usually lose that ability in a short time.

Data connectivity for fitness info always works, the Versa 2 seamlessly transfers fitness data. And...even when there is this loss of media control, a check of the phone shows it is still paired to "Versa 2 (Classic)" the whole time.

This seems to be a coding issue. If the watch shows as correctly paired as the "Versa 2 (Classic)" device, it should not lose the media control function. This is extremely frustrating for a device that I really think is great for all other functions...what can be done to raise this with your development team?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @RK0.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced with your Fitbit Versa 2. Thank you for trying to get them resolved before contacting us.

Please be aware that if your phone is managing multiple Bluetooth connections simultaneously the synchronization might get interrupted.

In addition to the troubleshooting steps you've performed, please make sure that Power Saving Mode or Battery Saver is turned off on your device. This mode frequently causes the device to disable Bluetooth.

You can also log out from the Fitbit app, reboot your phone and log back into the app.

Have a nice day.

I did check the Fitbit app, and made sure it is NOT battery optimized. Also, my phone is not in Battery Saver mode overall.

Unfortunately, the disconnect issue (widely complained about on the internet) persists. It can "re-paired" for a short while, but it is never persistent.

While I do like the fitbit watch, the lack of reliable media control of my phone has me looking for a different smartwatch when I need to replace my fitbit, or sooner if it gets too frustrating. Unfortunately, then I will not go back to the product. For such a good product in other respects, this should not be the case, and I wish fitbit would give it some more attention in their code.

When I say "widely complained about on the internet" and that this is a source of dissatisfaction with the product, I'm not exaggerating. Complaints on this type of issue goes back years. BTW, previously, I did have an OS Wear based watch...it never lost media control. I prefer the super battery life of the Fitbit Versa 2 over usually the one day battery life of a Wear OS based watch...and if this one issue was resolved, it would be my device of choice. Try a google search of "why does versa classic media disconnect so much" (not a search written for grammar, just for key terms), and you will see numerous complaints that are NOT solved...even when marked as such, erroneously.

What does it take to open a formal support case on this issue for a serious investigation? Some case beyond instructions that don't fix the problem, which is what exists today with the instructions "restart/re-pair your fitbit" for re-estabilshing media control....temporary media control.

Ok, after posting the above reply today 4/25/2022, there was a revision to the Fitbit app that seems to have greatly allievated the "Versa Classic" Bluetooth profile constant disconnect problem. The Fitbit app on my phone is now version 3.58.

I'm hoping the problem has been solved with the latest revision...and stays solved....
