New Fitbit Versa lite not syncing

Got a new Versa Lite today (got a new one last week also, but the charge only lasted 12 hours ..).  Now this one will not sync with my phone - it says it needs an update before I can use it but there was 'an error' when it tried to update.  I have followed all the suggestions including turning things on and off and enabling and disabling bluetooth - nothing works.  Grrrrrrrrr.  Any one have any ideas?? Thank you!

I am having the same exact issue as we speak.  I got me lite today and it is not updating!
