New Fitbit shows ‘data not cleared’

Please help - I purchased a versa 2 for my daughter.  Opened the box and switched it on and the message I get is ‘data not cleared sync and try again’.  I’m not sure how to set up the Fitbit when I can’t clear this message, I’ve tried holding the button on the left to switch on and off.  Many thanks

Im having the same issue with my 2 month old Versa Lite, but mine was restarting constantly and I read in the forums to do a factory reset...so I did that and unpaired it from the app and now I have that message and I cant add it back to my account or sync it or anything.
