New font style for clock face "Layers"?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hey there,

after the Fitbit OS 4.1 update on my Versa the Font Family(I think Arial) for the Clockface "Layers" has changed. I couldn't find this change in the changelog.

Now I have 2 Questions:

Is this a bug or a wanted change?

How can I get the old Font Family back?

Hello there @Reamon, welcome to the Community Forums. I'm sorry for the late response.

There wasn't any change in the Layer clock face after the latest update. For information about Fitbit OS updates, see What's changed in the latest Fitbit OS update?

Have you tried restarting your Versa? In order to do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Press and hold the back and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen.
  2. Let go of the buttons.
  3. If you still have issues with your device, turn it off and turn it back on. For more information, see How do I turn off my Fitbit device?

Let me know if there's anything else I may do to help you.

Same thing happened to me when I updated today. The font has definitely changed from "Vinyl" to something more like "Arial". It does not suit and I do not like the change.

I tried resetting the watch but that didn't work for me.

Sorry for the late response.

I tried to reset and restart the watch, but it still the same Problem.

@Slully Do you have activated the Developer Bridge?

Hi @Reamon and @Slully, thanks for the details provided.

Are you guys using a third-party clock face of the Layers made by Fitbit?

For future references, with third party apps, note that Fitbit doesn't own or maintain third party integrations. It's up to the owner of the third party app to implement or update features for their app so in this case is recommendable to contact the third party developer to learn more about future implementations.

To contact the developer please open their app on the Fitbit App Gallery, scroll/swipe down and under "App Details" you will find the information.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I don't have a developer bridge.

And I'm not using a 3rd party clock. I'm using Layers offered by Fitbit. If fitbit don't run it, who does?

Hi there @Slully and @Reamon, thanks for all the details provided. I've confirmed this with our team and, you're right, the font has changed.

It's custom for this clock, it's called Vinyl, you can purchase it here https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/t26/vinyl/

Let me know if you have any questions present.

Are fitbit sticking with the new font on the clock face or will it possibly change back to "Vinyl".

I'm not sure why you're trying to sell me a font. That doesn't help me at all.

I’m also having the same issue. It happened as soon as I did the software update. Looks terrible and needs changing back.

How on earth is telling us to buy a font going to solve the problem? 🤦‍:male_sign:

So this is dumb. I reached out to support, and they said the same thing. Try uninstalling the clockface and reinstalling it (didn't work). Try restarting your fitbit (didn't work).

Then they did some digging and said to sign up at myfonts.com and purchase the font for $20. Then after purchasing the font, you just open the fitbit app and resync your fitbit and it will be fixed.

That doesn't seem right. How can they make you purchase a font to use something that is advertised with the device? How does just buying a font at an unaffiliated website just magically make it work on fitbit without some kind of download, install, or sync to your fitbit account or the device use use to sync to your fitbit?

+1 for this issue.  Agree the new font doesn't look as good.  How can we change it back?

Created a community account so I could vote this up. I've been using this face for almost a year and it's by far my favorite, but I can't stand the font change. It looks amateurish now.

Hello, I am new to Fitbit but definitely after the latest update the font of this clock face changed. It is no longer Vinyl (visible from the fact that, for example, the 1 has a bar at the bottom that makes it look super clunky). I highly doubt that buying a font from a third party website on our computers will somehow automatically affect our fitbits (???) to show the correct font. Please advise.

@MarreFitbit Any news about this topic from Fitbit?

I agree, the new font looks horrible, I definitely want the original font back. Please solve this. The original font looked fresh, the current font looks stuffy. I really get an "eeeew" feeling because of the looks every time I check the time, cannot help it.

I have literally exchanged 12 emails back and forth with Fitbit support where they just kept asking me if I had tried "uninstalling and reinstalling it" and then told me to - wait for it - write on the forum to ask for help. Ridiculous. The problem is very simple: THE FONT IN THE CLOCK FACE IS WRONG and does not match what is advertised. The easy, obvious, fast solution is for Fitbit to fix the code of the clock face instead of basically mocking its customers through endless threads of hot air. @MarreFitbit who do we need to speak to for this to happen??

Thank you, for your info.

I think it would be faster to rebuilt the Clockface xD

Any hope that we can get the old font back?

Previous font are far better than what we are having now.

Someone created the same watch face, but added a battery icon and temperature to the corners.

Search for Layers, and use the Layers Weather 2 face (it even allows you to tweak the colors and data displayed).

Has anyone heard of this getting fixed yet? It's pretty ridiculous that the clock face in the store still shows the original Vinyl font, but we're stuck with this crappy font that looks shorter and fatter. It's just ugly.
