Not auto recognizing a swim

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I went and and had an induction at the local gym today. During that time the Versa didn't auto recognise a single activity, although I was expecting that since they were all under 10 minutes. However, I then went for a 30 minute swim and again it didn't auto recognise the activity. Even after over 30 minutes had passed since stopping it hadn't shown up so I had to manually add it.

Anyone else having issues with the auto recognition? I haven't updated the Versa firmware yet due to some of the bad things I've read about it. The version I'm using has auto recognised activities before quote happily.

Hi @GrumpyCyclist, it's nice to see you again in our Community Forums. I am sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing that your Fitbit Versa didn't auto recognize your swim and you had to manually add it. Thank you for the information that you haven't updated the Versa firmware yet.

SmartTrack recognizes activities based on the continuous movement of your arms. Sometimes, motions such as placing your arms on the bar of a treadmill, may interrupt SmartTrack. Additionally, stopping in the middle of an exercise may interrupt the activity tracking.

By default, SmartTrack recognizes an exercise that lasts at least 15 minutes. If your activities aren't being recognized, lowering the time auto-exercise recognition setting to 10 minutes may help ensure they record properly. For more information about the SmartTrack, please see here

If the issue persists, please restart your watch by following these stepsThis will refresh your device internally.

I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Hi @LiliyaFitbit

Thanks for the reply. I accept that the other exercises I did wouldn't register since they were all under 10 minutes since it was only an induction to be shown how the machines work.

The swim however was 30 minutes uninterrupted swimming. Arms and legs moving constantly. Last time I went swimming - which incidentally was with my previous Versa a few months before it died - it recognised even casual swimming in a hotel pool for 12 minutes as a swim.

I have restarted both the Versa and the phone multiple times already. All auto recognition exercises are set at 10 minutes already.

Hi @GrumpyCyclist, thank you for your reply.

I appreciate your efforts and the additional details. Some customers have a better experience with SmartTrack if they try wearing their device on a different wrist. Because SmartTrack recognizes activities based on the continuous movement of your arms, in some cases, changing the wrist that you wear your watch on can improve activity recognition. Remember that if you change your wrist, you should also change your handedness setting

If the issue persists please let me know if your watch auto recognize other type of activities or it stopped recognizing all activities including swimming?
