Roll back OS 4.2 firmware update ?

Since the update, my heart rates no longer match those recommended by my cardiology group.

I have a watch face that has an amber color indicator for my cardio zone and red for peak which no longer is effective. My peak and cardio zones have changed and I can't seem to find a way to reset them. I've looked in the app and on the web.

 

I use those colors to monitor my heart rate during workouts. Now I don't know how long I spent in cardio and peak.

 

Frustrated !

There is no way to roll back a firmware update. How much difference is there between what was recommended for you and what it currently shows?

The way Fitbit calculates your heart rate zones are better now and more closely to match each individual as your zones take your resting heart rate into account instead of the old way of just your age minus 220. Here is the calculation they use, copied from their site......

 

Fitbit personalizes your heart-rate zones using your heart rate reserve, which is the difference between your maximum heart rate* and your resting heart rate (source).

Heart rate reserve is an indication of your overall cardiovascular fitness. While your maximum heart rate is generally determined by age, your resting heart rate can be lowered by increasing your fitness level. By lowering your resting heart rate, you can increase your heart rate reserve.

For example, if you are 45 years old and your resting heart rate is 74 bpm, here’s the math:

First, calculate your maximum heart rate and heart rate reserve.

Metric Calculation

Maximum Heart Rate175 bpm

Common formula of 220 - age (45)
Heart Rate Reserve

Maximum heart rate - resting heart rate

Target Heart Rate Per Zone(Percentage of maximum heart rate × heart rate reserve) + resting heart rate

Next, use your heart rate reserve to calculate your personalized heart-rate zones.

Heart-Rate Zone Calculation

Fat Burn Zone110 to 134 bpm

Bottom of zone: (0.4 × 101) + 74 = 110 bpm
Top of zone: (0.59 × 101 ) + 74 = 134 bpm
Cardio Zone

135 to 155 bpm

Bottom of zone: (0.6 × 101) + 74 = 135 bpm
Top of zone: (0.84 × 101) + 74 = 154 bpm

Peak Zone156+ bpm

Bottom of zone: (.85 × 101) + 74 = 155 bpm
Top of zone: maximum heart rate

Note that you can see your personalized heart-rate zones on the Active Zone Minutes screen in the Fitbit app.

It's not even close. I show 1 minute of peak this morning. I'm typically at least 20 minutes and more often 30 minutes +

 

Yesterday's avg bpm was 127 for 43 minutes showed 0 cardio and 0 peak

I'm age 70. Resting hr = 75. I'm told my max rate should be ~154 and peak 127 -144

 

Where it was set previously was working fine for me. If you can't take me back, I may be forced to look at alternative solutions.

In the settings in the app you can still set a custom max heart rate and that should change the zone boundaries?  I've not tried it but it might be worth a go.

Nope. I've tried using the custom zones too. The results are unsatisfactory..

Thanks for trying. It looks like I have to spend some $$$

a) find a versa that has not yet been updated

b) research competing products

If my math is correct. Based on your resting heart rate and age with the new calculations your 3 zones should be.....

105 for fat burn

120 for cardio and

139 for peak

Some good news.

1. I am able to approximate my desired settings by adjusting he Max Heart Rate.

2. The HR measurement during exercise is substantially more stable after the firmware update. Before, the HR displayed would either lag behind or spike upward, sometimes by 20 or more points.
