SPO2 Clock Face by Fitbit ruined my Display

SPO2 Clock Face app by Fitbit has burned into my Versa 2 screen, and is now always visible in the background of all light colored displays and behind any app. Watch face was uninstalled, Versa factory reset (per support) and problem persists. Always On display was never used. Essentially ruined my display.

Accepted Solutions

Support said reboot (didn't solve problem), then try factory reset. Did all that and no improvement.

Watch display is essentially ruined by an official Fitbit clock face.

In fact, this clock face was recommended and promoted by Fitbit in emails and other promotional communication.

This is not a 3rd party app or any fault on my part.

Watch should be replaced at no cost to me.

looks like the screen is burnt, lemme explain, if you use the always-on display for long periods of time or have the screen on at high brightness for long periods of time, the pixels will burn this image into the top layer of the screen, and if you disassemble the Fitbit or any screen and take this layer off, you will only see the backlight, so the only way to fix this is to completely install a new screen. or buy a new Fitbit. kind of a waste of $160 dollars on a ruined Fitbit. but anyway a factory reset wont help because the screen is permanently burnt like this. 😞

I'm sorry for any inconvenience and please note that any feedback posted in the forums is always welcome as it helps to improve our products, services and overall environment. If your original device is no longer under warranty a discount could be an available option but some conditions and requirements should be met. For more information about our warranty policy, I recommend visiting the following link: https://www.fitbit.com/global/us/legal/returns-and-warranty

This is the best way to make your voice heard. I understand you've invested in the Fitbit Family, however, Fitbit as any other company have policies to follow through. If you have doubts about the response that received from our team, please feel free to get back to them. They will be glad to give you more details about your warranty options.

Catch you later.

I discovered the same thing with my fitbit.  I love my fitbit, use it all the time, mostly as a watch and for incoming messages and such from my phone. So having a clear display is crucial for me.  However, I am no longer under warranty and since the image is burned into the display, when it comes time to replace my fitbit,  I will prolly go somewhere else.   Really disappointed.

Wow! This just happened with my FitBit and tech support didn’t bother to explain it was because of their clock face - just you’re beyond warranty go buy another. Man, this company has gone downhill.

I noticed the same this has happened to my watch too & found this when I googled. What the heck, I didn't even know this was possible?

So if I'm past warranty I'm basically screwed even if I reach out to the company?!

The same thing has happened to my Versa 2 with the same screen. Is Fitbit going to formally address this? My watch is ruined after 2 years. Greatly disappointed. Love the product, but might be forced to look elsewhere.

Same thing happened to my versa 2. Did all the things you did with exact same result. Now I can’t see anything on my screen. I know its on as it vibrates with notifications  but Watch face is dark

Same issue with mine. Really disappointed.

Burned screen here too....so disappointed in the lack of resolution from Fitbit on the issue. The standard "...turn it off and back on..." trick does not work for permanently damaged screens. Apps need to be reviewed much more closely for device compatibility.  It's not compatible if it damages the device! Really started to love the watch, but this has left me looking at other options for a new smart watch.

Hey @mjh,

You're not alone.

This is also my Versa2 watch after installing SPO2 clock face.

Different clock face but same result. Really upset that a recommended clock face would damage my screen like this. Had hoped to hold onto this watch for a while longer 😕 I have a Versa 2 and it’s probably well past the warranty 😞

Well, doesn’t matter much now. Screen went completely black now. Occasionally a random pixel here and there but worthless.
Shopping for something else now.

Same here. Looks like it is happening to many people at the same time. 😕

Having the same issue. Will not buy another Fitbit after hearing the company is just leaving us all in the lurch with this defect. So disappointing.

I've just noticed the same problem today as well - have never used the always on display... watch is only 2 years old and am incredibly frustrated at this 'planned obsolescence'.  I have other watches that are 25+ years old, maybe time to go analog.

Does anyone know how/where to replace the screen?

Thanks

Exact same issue happened to my Fitbit Sense.  My face screen went black several times and I too was told to reboot etc.  it worked twice and the last time it went black I too was informed my screen burned out and how I was out of warranty.  All times times prior when it went out I was under warranty.  A complete waste of $300 therefore Fitbit advises you to get another fitness tracker from them.  I would NOT

FITBIT YOU NEED TO RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR CLOCK FACE OFTEN TO PREVENT SCREEN BURN!!!

Same issue here, different clock face but Versa 2.
