Hi,
A few months back I got my father a Fitbit Versa light. After a few months you don't use it a couple times and he asked me if I wanted it, and so I decided I'd give it a try.
When I got it I performed a factory reset, thinking that was all I needed to do before I can link my account. However when I connect my Fitbit Android smartphone app to my Fitbit watch, the watch interface has not come up and I continually get prompted to download the Fitbit app on my watch screen. I've downloaded the app, it appears that the devices synced on the Fitbit app. However the watch is not functional and continues to show The prompt mentioned above.
when I go back to the app the only thing it says I'm missing is a software update, however each time I try this software update it fails after trying for an extended. Of time.
Any advice on how to remedy this issue would be much appreciated.

I'm not quite following your situation. I take it you have an Android phone. Have you downloaded the Fitbit app onto the phone? If so, have you created a Fitbit account? If so, have you logged into that Fitbit account on your phone and gone through 'Set up a Device'?
If have not gone through 'Set up a Device', tap profile pic at top left of 'Today' page to get to 'Account' page. Look for 'Set up a Device', tap it, and follow instructions.

Thanks Johnny,
I've completed those steps, and the Android phone appears to be connected to the Fitbit watch. However, I am prompted to complete a firmware update, each time I attempt to do so I get the screen attached below, and subsequently the update fails each attempt.
I've also attach an image below of the screen that appears on the Fitbit watch throughout this process, as well as after this process. Despite being connected.
