I have had my Versa for a little more than a month now and during that time it has only managed to give me sleep stages for maybe a third or a fourth of the nights, the rest I only get basic sleep details. This is very disappointing since sleep stages was one of the main reasons for me to choose the Fitbit Versa over other smartwatches.
I have tried every suggestion I could find - restarting it, forgetting it and resetting it in the app (with all other Bluetooth connections removed, which by the way is a serious nuisance!), changing tightness, changing position, turning off and on heart rate sensor,... nothing helps. I do not start sleep manually either. I´ve tried to find a logic to when it works and not, for a while it seemed that if I reset it after charging it would start working for a while again, but now even resetting doesn´t work. It never has any problem showing my heart rate during the day so it really can´t be the sensor or the positioning that is the problem, it has to be software related.
Please, Fitbit, can you help me or do something about this?
Also it never seems to be able to sense when I wake up, whether with sleep stages or basic sleep details. Even if I leave bed and get up it gives the wake up time as the time when I go into the app to check the sleep, and I always have to manually adjust it. Is this how it is supposed to work?
Thanks!

@mtilly It seems like you have covered all bases. If your tracker is charged, HR detected correctly, and you sleep more than 3 hours, you should get sleep stages. Versa automatically detects when you wake up and not when you open the app. A few days ago, I stumbled upon an interesting post by user @jbotwood. Could it apply to you situation? If not, I am afraid you might have to contact Customer Support to guide you through the next steps.

I’m having a problem with the sleep tracking too! I was hoping this would be better than the charge 2 but it’s worse! It is more comfortable to sleep in but most of the time it starts tracking 2-3 hours after I’ve gone to bed. And then I only get basic tracking half the time.

If you delete the logs with no sleep stages, then create brand new ones over the same time period, do the new logs have seep stages? They always do for me unless my heart rate was not consistent
I've messed with sleep stages, creating manual logs covering the few hours of watching TV directly before bed and the device tells me I'm in deep sleep when wide awake watching TV. As far as I can tell the sleep stage feature is wildly inaccurate. I often find after correcting my constantly broken logs I am in deep sleep immediately after going to bed, even though I remember being awake for 30 minutes
The sleep stage data is meaningless in my opinion

Thank you Marrrmaduke, yes, I´m afraid it´s Customer Support next. That post was interesting though, maybe I´ll try switching syncing etc. I do want it on during daytime though for the sake of notifications. Thank you for pointing it out!

jbotwood, thank you for the tip! I tried deleting and recreating a few sleep logs, but I could not create new ones. There was some kind of message when I clicked Save, probably some kind of error message, but it reverted to the sleep log list too fast for me to be able to read it (sigh)...

The app is a bit fiddly to do sleep logs when you go to bed before midnight. You need to make sure you the start and end dates are different, and you've selected in 24 hour mode, e.g. 23:30 yesterday to 06:30 today. I kept triggering the error you got when I first bought my device. Also you can't create two logs that overlap so if I get two logs for one night with a gap in between, I delete one of them, then edit the remaining one to cover the time of the one I deleted, or just delete both logs, then create a new one

I believe that's how it's supposed to track, since it has to sense you not moving for 2-3 hours to begin with. I assume you're tried all the troubleshooting mentioned by the original poster to see if you can get detailed Sleep Stages?

I started using the Versa on Dec 2 and it recorded sleep stages fine till last night when it reverted to the style. I changed nothing yesterday.

@gwistehuff Did it record the heart rate? Try toggling ON/OFF the heart rate monitoring on your Versa with the reboot of the tracker in-between. You can access that feature by tapping on the Settings app on your Versa and scrolling down to Heart Rate. Also, make sure that your Versa battery is not critically low or it may not record heart rate and your sleep stages. Make sure your Versa's band is not too loose, too.

How do I reboot the tracker. I’m ready to give up on sleep tracking. I’ve worn a Fitbit for about 10 years. Since they first came out. This is the worst one yet for sleep tracking.

@Bethi911 press and hold the left and bottom right buttons until fitbit logo flashes. Also, can you check if your heart rate was recorded for the nights you're missing the sleep stages? Perhaps you could post some screenshots?
