Sleep tracking inaccurate with Versa

My Versa tracks my sleep but it's inaccurate.  I woke up this morning at 7am.  My Versa reported I was awake at 5am & it stopped tracking my sleep.  Other nights it starts my sleep long after I go to bed.  I'm asleep after my head hits the pillow.  My Blaze used to track sleep if I fell asleep in the recliner, recorded awake time when I moved to my bed & went back to tracking sleep until I woke in the morning.  Are there known issues with the Versa's sleep tracking that are being corrected by Fitbit?  I made the wrong assumption accuracy (heart rate, steps, sleep) would not be an issue with the Versa since the Blaze works so well.

Ok, so right now I'm doing a complete factory reset to see if that solves the issue. If it does, I'll report back here, and if not, I'll return it and either exchange it for a new one or get a refund.

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the forums and your feedback about the sleep features on the Versa. We have received reports that using some 3rd party clock-faces might be affecting the sleep monitoring on the Fitbit Versa. At this moment I would like to ask you to reply to me with the name of the clock-face you're currently using and then change it to a Fitbit one, restart your Versa by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen and monitor the watch for the next night. In case you're still having trouble with the sleep feature, please reply to me so I can determine which steps should we take next.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome!

I was using Loops by Fitbit, but I've done a factory reset and although not ideal, it seems to have worked, so I think that rules out a hardware issue. I will continue to monitor it over the next few nights.

I am using a fitbit clock face--smarty--and the sleep tracking function only works well occasionally.

Just looked at my sleep for last night and it’s accurate.  I did not check it before I changed to a Fitbit clock face. and reset.  I will retest tonight to confirm.  Also I was using the clock face Spring.

I am having the same problem with Versa that has been explained by many here.  My Charge 2 and Blaze tracked sleep perfectly for years . The Versa is the issue, not the user's 'sleep hygiene'.

Is Fitbit even trying to recreate the sleep tracking errors that are being described here in a lab?

This many people all having the same exact issue cannot be user error. None of the troubleshooting tips and tricks that have been shared by Fitbit Representatives help me, and apparently they aren't helping anyone else either.

Well, my versa is back to being unable to track my sleep accurately. This is a huge dissapointment.

I agree with everyone else.  My Charge 2 worked just fine but I get nothing from my Versa.  Tried it all, sleep settings, switching arms, nothing worked.  For the fun of it, I wore my Charge 2 and it gave me a sleep analysis.  This is ridiculous.  I'm ready to return the Versa.

Well after changing to a Fitbit clock and resetting the Versa I am still experiencing the same issue.  Says I got 2 hrs of sleep last night.

Odd. When I changed my clock back to Spring it shows the correct hours of sleep.

Previous watch face: TREKV4FB Changed to Chronograph by FitBit last evening about 7PM Watch had over 80% charge This morning watch recorded 1 hour 8 minutes sleep I went to bed at 10:00 and did not wake up at all until about 5AM. Something is very wrong with the sleep recording.

My problem is the opposite....it records me as sleeping when I’m awake.

If I get up to use the bathroom it records that , but then when I’m back in bed it records me as sleeping even if I’m reading. I have a fairly low resting HR, not sure if that’s why.  Annoying at best.

I feel let down by fitbit. This is unacceptable. So many people are having this exact issue. If we pay 300 dollars for a watch it should work, as stated. I feel like this watch is garbage.  Sleep tracking is embarrassing, HR is not accurate, and my alarms do not work. Not worth the money. I bought it at a sport store so i can't even get my money back.

Hi

Last night I wore my Versa, tightly strapped to my left arm and my Charge HR
strapped to my right arm. The versa reported only 3hr 43m sleep but the
Charge HR correctly reported 6hr 7m. When I manually adjusted the start and
end times for the Versa, the timings were similar, but not identical, to
the Charge HR.

Separately, I checked the Charge HR and Versa against the pulse counter of a
clinically validated blood pressure monitor. Both were accurate when
stationary but movement caused the Versa to read high, in one case up to
10bpm higher.

Perhaps the problem is the shape of the Versa. HR sensors and similar such
as SPO2 must be tightly held against the skin without any relative movement.
The sensor on the Charge HR projects outwards so that it is held tightly
against the skin even if the watch isn't that tight. The Versa has a smooth
underside causing it to move around unless it is very tight. This theory
would tend to be proven by the HR measurements I separately took.

I hope my theory is wrong because apart from this problem and a few early
release bugs, I really like my Versa. Hopefully the problem will be down to
a poorly designed algorithm.

Two nights ago my Vera’s did not record at all last night it recorded correctly.  Nothing changed.  Watch was worn on same hand same spot on wrist exact same notch in the bands.

why is Fitbit so silent on this

maybe time to go public to wake them up.

Same here.  I returned my first one hoping it was just a defective unit, but the new Versa did the same exact thing last night. I woke up briefly at 1 a.m and went back to sleep in less than 5 minutes. The Versa showed me being awake for the next 3 hours.

Very disappointed, but even more so in the customer service we're getting.  They keep sending us back to the same information like it's some sort of user error.

Maybe we take the issue to Twitter...
