Step count differs from tracker, app and online Dashboard.

I got a new Versa over the weekend.  I really like it, but I'm having some initial trust issues with the stats I'm being shown.  First let me say, I've been a fitbit user for ~7 years.  On a normal day like today, I know more or less where my numbers should be.

After resyncing everything, this is what I'm seeing:

fitbit.com shows my step count at 8057.

The fitbit app on my phone shows 9024.

The Versa shows 11,777.  (This is close to what I expect, but maybe a bit high.)

All 3 locations show my stair count at 24.  The actual, and correct number should be 9.  But then while sitting here typing this, the stair count jumped to 25.

I understand these fitness trackers are an approximation, but these number don't seem reliable, especially given that they don't agree with themselves.

Are there backend sync problems?  But that doesn't explain the stair count being 3 times my actual.

Any guidance here?

Thanks.

Hello @Piscean, I hope you're having a great day, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community! Smiley Happy

Thanks for bringing this situation to my attention. I understand your step count is showing discrepancies between the app, the online Dashboard and the Versa itself. Please note that we had an outage this week which might have contributed to the discrepancy in the step count as syncing was affected.

At this moment I would like to monitor your data for the next couple of days and sync regularly your Versa. If you come across this issue again, please take a picture of your Versa after syncing and a screenshot of the Fitbit app and online Dashboard so I can check this further.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

Marco, I am having the same problem. Both yesterday and today. On my online dashboard as well as on the android app on my phone, I am missing 10,000 steps on both days!.

Hello @SwissCourt, thanks for joining the conversation, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have shared your experience with me, Tell me, which tracker are you currently using? Are you able to see the correct amount of steps in your tracker before syncing it? If so, I would like to suggest you to restart your tracker and then monitor it for the next couple of days, making sure to sync at least twice during the day. If you're still missing steps, please take a picture of your tracker showing the amount of steps you currently have and then a screenshot of the Fitbit app after syncing the tracker.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

My I got my versa a few weeks ago, immediately the app showed amounts consistent w/ the tracker then when I looked at history a few days later my 250 steps per days amounts showed days as if i never took any steps at all. I figured this was because it was still trying to sync to the new tracker correctly. All has been going ok now today (4 weeks in to having the new tracker) my tracker shows i have reached the 250 steps per hour every hour (i did yesterday as well); the app shows i only did 3 hours yesterday and only the first hour today. completely inconsistent data.

My Fitbit and my app are showing a great difference this evening. My Fitbit says I have walked 10, 322 steps. The app says 8, 500 something steps.

I am not tech savvy.

I too am having the same issue. Saying 9860 steps on my tracker and only 6722 on the app 😕

Same issue for the last three days.  App differs from Versa 2 when syncing.  Difference is anywhere from 4,000 steps to 200 steps.  Tried everything from resetting Versa, deleting and reloading application, toggling Bluetooth settings, resetting phone.  Been a fitbit user for years so not new to capabilities of the application/watch

I’ve had my tracker to some time now, and just yesterday have noticed an inconsistency between the tracker and the app on my iPhone.  Today the difference isn’t major but it was yesterday. Has anyone had any success in correcting this issue?

Yes! After reading about 50 suggestions and trying everything (toggled Bluetooth, reset Versa, reloaded app, etc.), I deleted the clock face i was using a loaded a fitbit developed clock face. That did the trick. I had the same face for many months with no problems so not sure what the link was. It did not fix steps from previous days (lost about 5000 one day) but it fixed the overall problem.  Good luck

Okay so I’m also having this problem. It’s showing on the app I’ve done 6500, but on my Fitbit Versa Lite it says 9700, which I know is more accurate as I’ve been looking at it all day! I changed the clock face to a Fitbit one and And it did work, but both showed 6500 which is so annoying as I’ve done over 3000 more steps than that 😩

I have a similar problem, with steps  on my One shown as lower on my Dashboard when I sync (in Safari). The steps on my One are then down-graded to match. eg I had 6658 on my One, which was then reduced to 6242. Floors and miles are unaffected. This has also happened on my Android tablet. I can't change the watch face as suggested, since the One doesn't exactly have one.

I have tried re-setting my One but it has made no difference. I have also tried syncing with my tablet rather than in Safari: the same problem arises.

This is so frustrating, I am on the brink of abandoning my Fitbit forever. I would be sorry to do this, as I have been with Fitbit for many years and appreciate the Fitbit platform, but I can't bear having my steps stolen, thinking I have met my goal only to find I have missed it due to a Fitbit fail.

Last fall I finally gave up on Fitbit.  Every firmware upgrade was a nightmare.  Battery life was horrific.  I walked away from my account of 33M steps and 44,000 floors.

I'm a numbers person, and had years as a fitbit user.  But it was time to move on.

It is a comfort to hear from you, Piscean (Jogger). I’d be very interested to hear from you what, if any, tracker you moved on to. I have bought a Garmin Vivoactive 3. After a rocky start, when I had it all packed up to return, I have come to love it. (I do hope I haven’t jinxed things by saying this!) However I’d like to keep tracking with my One as well, partly because I like to keep in touch with my daughter and a friend in America via the Leaderboard.

I have the same problem with Charge 5. Steps on the app today were around 1700  and the device around 3400.
