Step counting really inaccurate

Following lots of research, treated myself to a Versa 2. Have been wearing it for 2 days and so far, very disappointed with the step count. I worked from home yesterday, so limited steps, yet my watch told me I'd done 10k steps by the end if the day! Day 2, and it's not much more accurate. I've now followed the advice re setting to dominate setting, and recording stride length, so will see if it improves. However my step count has just increased by 20 just by moving my arm whilst sitting on the sofa. Really not impressed so far, particularly given how much I have spent on this!!!

Hi @TinaSL, welcome to the Community forums. Sorry for the late response.

I'm sorry to see that you've been having trouble with accuracy of steps recorded. Thank you for sharing all this information.

Before considering other options, could you please provide a few extra details about what you've been experiencing? Let me know if you're experiencing this behavior with a specific activity, or if you're seeing this during the day with regular use of the watch.

In the meantime, you can find more useful information about the accuracy of Fitbit devices here: How accurate are Fitbit devices? If you haven't done so already, try to perform a restart procedure as well and check if you continue to experience the same behavior: How do I restart my Fitbit device?

Please keep me posted.

I just did 1.2 miles on the treadmill and Fitbit tells me I did 378 steps. Yesterday I did a mile and got 878 steps. I've learned not to expect Fitbit to get the distances right (!!!) on a treadmill, but how can I use it reliably to count steps? Does it only work if I walk outside? Because that's not good enough. It's too cold to walk outside right now.

It's just no good to me at all.

David, I bought the Versa 2 for ONE reason. I wanted to know how far I was running in the foothills/mountains.  I mapped a 6 mile run on the road and the Versa 2 said I ran 4.9 miles.  I run 4 miles on the treadmill and it says I ran 2.8 miles.  What is the point of a GPS monitored watch if it can't figure out distance?  Extremely disappointed and frustrated.

Hi David, I've followed the guidance: set my stride, chosen dominant hand
etc. However the step count is still really poor. I've been monitoring it
for the past few mornings and its telling me I've done over 1000 steps
before I've event left home. All I do is make coffee and get ready!! It
seems as though its counting every arm movement as a step, which is not at
all accurate. I'm not sure if the watch is faulty. I chose Fitbit as I
thought it was a reliable brand, but really not feeling it at the moment.

Step counting on a treadmill is WAY off on the Versa 2. I knew it was, but I recently found an older (non-wrist) Fitbit that clips to my bra, and I wore both on the treadmill for 15 minutes. Old Fitbit says 1602 steps. New Fitbit says 637.  So old one is better.

Question: can I set up a page for my old Fitbit as well as the new one? How? Otherwise I might just use the old one and sell this one on eBay.
