Treading Water

Hello!!  I have major joint problems so all I'm able to do is tread water in a deep tank for exercise.  I need to lose 30lbs and I'm tracking my calorie intake and burn to keep a steady loss pace.

My question: which exercise mode in versa would give me the most accurate calorie burn count for treading water?

I'd think you'd burn more calories than running because of the resistance.  I have no clue how the workout, swim, bootcamp, yoga, or pilates modes work.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Katty189 This is a good question! The best way to track it that I can think of is to use the 'Workout' Exercise Shortcut and then change the name of it in the app afterwards to Treading Water. There is once catch however. To get the calorie count correct you will need to create a Custom Activity for Treading Water. Its a bit involved to create, but once there it added your list permanently.

ADDING A CUSTOM ACTIVITY
First you have to know how many calories you burn in your activity. You can google calorie calculators (see the link I have added below for one of them)

Then go to the Fitbit website Dashboard (not the app) and tap the top of the Recent Exercise tile. A little thing will drop down on the bottom of the tile. Tap See More which is on the right side. A new page comes up. Move right to the bottom of this new page to the box titled Activities which is on the right side at the bottom. On the bottom of this box, in blue and small print it says Create Custom Activity. Tap that and a box comes up. Put in the title of the Activity and then fill in the start time and duration of you latest session, fill in the calories burnt and hit log. You have now created your custom activity. Bit of a trial, but you only have to do it that way once.

Then the next time you tread water, track it as a Workout using the exercise shortcut and then after it has synced go to the exercise on the exercise tile (running man) and select edit and change the name by starting to type in Treading Water. When the drop down box appears select it off the list and it is done.

OR if you want it easier than that, I found this  Calories burned trwading water

'Compared to walking at a brisk pace for the same amount of time, a water workout can burn as much as three times the calories. Simply treading water in a pool burns 11 calories per minutes; that's the same as running six-miles-per-hour.'
