Steps lost after sync

I just started using a new Versa Lite today. I had reached 8000 steps earlier in the day. This evening, I reached over 10,000 steps. I synced with the app on my phone and it briefly showed the new total, then switched back to the lower step count both on the app and on the watch.

I am using the latest firmware.

One possibility would be that you did not sync from your old device just before switching.  In that case, steps on old device since last sync never made it to the main fitbit database even though they might have shown on the tracker and app.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I had synced the older fitbit before I set up the new one. The steps and other data were transferred to the new device automatically. I walked a few thousand more steps and synced with the app. The new total showed up briefly on the app but then switched back to the previous total and copied that lower value back to the fitbit.

Not sure if it matters, but the older one was in the room and still had battery power. I moved it to a room far away and placed it in a metal box just in case. The problem has not recurred.
