Swim app inadequate

I've just bought the Fitbit versa because it advertised it tracked swimming (I previously owned a Pebble & Garmin). You can imagine my disappointment after my swim when reviewing the Swim app data which only provides lap count, distance, average time/100m based on total swim time. There are no Matrix's logged that allow you to review the time it took to swim each lap (length) which is the most fundamental performance measurement requirement of any swimming tracking device amongst others such stroke count & rate, SWOLF, etc. I suggest Fitbit look at swim.com which provided meaningful Matrix's that worked with the Pebble watch plus other competitor watches and that Fitbit develop their app to provide similar if Fitbit want their watch to be competitive. Unfortunately I had to blog my colleagues today at numerous swimming clubs to hold off buying the Versa until I hear from Fitbit or to buy another product if they want meaningful swimming Metric's now that meets basic swimming tracking requirements which are fundamental to improving performance. Fitbit, please can you advise if this is going to be rectified ASAP (date?) so I can decide whether to return my Fitbit Versa for a full refund. (Purchased mine on 15 April 2018)

Thank you for this. I have also been looking at the galaxy watches and how
they work with swim.com. Seems like a better smartwatch in general with
better swimming options. All I want in a fit tracker is swimming. I don't
really care about anything else. I appreciate your recommendation!

Dear FitBit company person,

Can you explain why the stats that are recorded during the swim and displayed on the watch directly afterwards are not uploaded to the App. As mentioned previously it makes this device completely pointless. Please fix this seemingly pointless feature by making a software update that transfers the data that has obviously been measured & recorded onto the App.

I bought versa 2 thinking it would be better than my previous versa, but the swim option doesn't work.... I can only see the time, in my previous versa i can see the numer of laps, calories etc.  I'm very  disappointed and i don't know what to do, because i only bought it for the swim details.

Hi Cynthia, my suggestion is to cut your losses and buy a galaxy active 2 like i did and install swim.com app - their metric's are amazing and can be viewed several years later as necessary...also works on ios & android. Fitbit's arrogance and contempt for swimmers is unparalleled and have done nothing since my original post over 2 years ago.

Hi cynrock,

I can get those pointless parameters too! My issue is that even though the Fitbit measures time, lengths and is told the distance (give or take) it does NOT display this useful information on the app. It does give this information on the Fitbit immediately after activity and before but not after upload, so why does it not get uploaded too?  Personally I do not really want to know how many calories per length I burn, I’d rather know how quick I swim and if I’m getting faster or not.

Thanks for taking an interest though, it’s far more than the people of Fitbit have done.  They clearly do not care what they can do to improve their customers experience. Not unless it involves making even more money from them.

Fitbit sucks, no one cares swimmers. And you know what, they shows calories per lap, but totally wrong. I tested their logic for calories counting, it's f* stupid, the longer you swim with the same distance (mean you swim slower), the more calories you burn. Wtf how come ?? I am not suggest anyone buy any fitbit watch

FitBit doesn’t allow you to log more than a 3 digit distance. That’s ridiculous! I will shop

I upgraded after the Ionic recall and am very disappointed in the so called upgrade. The ionic would count laps, allow me to set a distance goal, and show some of the lap splits when finished. I was also able to add additional swim apps to the ionic and none of those are available for the versa 3. The versa 3 is nicer in some ways but the old ionic did what I needed it to do for swimming. This was a bait and switch as the product description literally says you can track laps. Any swimmer who used the ionic before will be disappointed and should save their money or buy another brand unless Fitbit fixes this feature downgrade.

Hi, sorry you had to find out the hard way about the Versa. I was one of the first to raised the issue when they launched the Versa several years ago without success from Fitbit. Their response has been contemptuous with regards to swimmers and suggest you move to Garmin or Galaxy watch. I went the Galaxy Watch route (much richer experience) where you can install the free Swim.com app from the iOS or Google play stores, which provides you with all the metrics you can think of relating to swimming and stores you swims indefinitely for free in the cloud, i.e. you can install the app on any device (Phone, iPad, tablet) and see your swims from several years ago. What's really great about the app on your watch is it allows you see all your metrics in real time after each lap or set while in the pool, and it automatically sync's with your phone immediately when its in range. You can also customise the metrics you want to see first or remove the ones you don't want on the watch. Good luck whatever you decide.
