Syncing difficulties and not tracking sleep

I’ve had my Versa since end of last year so nearly a year old. Several months ago the band broke so I purchased a new leather strap rather than chase warranty. From day 1 my Versa has struggled to sync and now syncing has got a lot worse, phone can’t find device most of the time and timekeeping has become completely unreliable. To top it off the last time I got it to sync (after forgetting the device on my app, letting watch go dead, starting from scratch all over again) it has evidently also lost the ability to track sleep as it completely stopped tracking at 2.40 am when I was in deep sleep at the time - so not like it was confused and ‘thought’ I had woken up. I’ve previously had Fitbit one, then I switched to Garmin because Fitbit watches couldn’t track swims, then came back to Fitbit excited about the Versa.  At this Point my birthday is coming up again it feels like such a headache I’m tempted to ask my family to club together for an Apple Watch. What can be done to get my watch behaving like it should?

Hello @Haluna, welcome to the Community Forums! Sorry for the delayed reply.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for troubleshooting your device prior to posting too, I totally understand how frustrating this matter can be for you. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know which mobile device are you using to sync your Fitbit? When was the first time you experienced the syncing difficulties and how many times since then? For the syncing difficulties, I recommend you to check how the syncing procedure works here and see if there's a missing requirement on your mobile device that's preventing the syncing procedure to be completed. Also, you can move forward to the troubleshooting steps that are specified on: Why won't my Fitbit device sync? and let me know how it goes.

In regards the sleep that's not being tracked, can you please let me know if your Versa isn't tracking Sleep Stages or sleep information at all? There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages, find them as follows:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results you can  wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Keep me posted and let me know if you have any additional questions.
