I tried yesterday to sync my fit bit lite versa to a Sony Xperia and it never worked so started again with a iPhone 8 still never worked shall we take it back or can u sort the problem cheers

If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check how the syncing procedure works here and see if there's a missing requirement on your Sony Xperia or the iPhone 8 that's preventing the syncing procedure to be completed.
