I'm a daily gym attender, doing a mixture of weights and cardio. I used to use a mp3 player clipped to my vest, paired with Jabra Elite Sport earbuds. I'd tried a Garmin Forerunner 645 before, but returned it because of its complicated interface, large size and malfunctioning HRM. I've also used a MyZone MZ-3 chest belt and MZ-60 watch, but found the belt too constricting and the watch difficult to read and limited in its functions.
I'm not particularly interested in comparing my stats with others and found the MyZone website irritating. The Versa's style has an immediate appeal, particularly when fitted with the stainless strip, and it doesn't look ridiculous on my slim wrist. The touchscreen and controls are intuitive. Transferring music is laborious and I'd prefer album names rather than numbered playlists. Music playback with the Jabra Elite Sport earbuds is faultless, although I haven't found a way of changing the playlist mid exercise tracking.
I've largely given up switching between different exercises, as the tracking is inconsistent and doesn't include rowing or recumbent bike. Instead I stick to 'workout' throughout a gym session, which gives a total calorie count within 10% of that recorded on individual equipment or with the MZ-3. The 10,000 steps a day is a myth, but it's still interesting to see how much one has exceeded that. As regards the accuracy of the HRM, I think a major factor is how well the watch sits on the wrist. If there is too much movement when exercising the figures are erratic. The stainless steel strap allows finer adjustment than the one supplied with the Versa. I've had some problems with syncing, both with a PC and smartphone, so I now just use the watch in standalone fashion. Battery life is running at 3 days, including 3 hours of music playback.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the Versa and I think the key thing is to work around the current limitations and issues.
