Super frustrated

Tried everything listed here. did not work.  Finally removed the device and tried to re-pair  It finds the device but never gave me the 4 digit code.  on the device it says, unlock with phone.  I have a feeling my "effing" fitbit versa 2 is now BRICKED.  I cannot do a hard reset on the device.  It constantly says please unlock with your phone.

Please send help

Your fitbit is locked if you enter an incorrect PIN 10 times. Ordinarily, when this happens you can reset the PIN via the app....but only if the Fitbit is still connected.

As you've disconnected the Fitbit the only way out of the situation is to factory reset the tracker and set it up from scratch (all your data is safe as that's on the servers). The problem with a factory reset is that the instructions require you to use the fitbit.

There is a complicated process to factory reset in these situations but I think it's best if you do that under guidance from customer support: contact.fitbit.com

The process to unlock with the phone is a simple 30 second process.

Now that it has been removed, as @SteveH mentions a factory reset must be done. The timing of the steps are critical, some users needed to try 8-9 encore it worked.

Fitbit OS hardware reset.

On the watch, hold all three buttons for about twelve seconds. This will trigger the 2-button hardware restart after about eight seconds.

- When the Fitbit logo appears, then disappears, release the bottom right button, whilst continuing to hold the left and top right buttons until you feel a strong vibration. This indicates the factory reset was initiated.

- This process may take several seconds, and eventually, the Fitbit logo appears and the device boots and displays go to Fitbit.com/setup.

- If you fail to release the bottom right button in time or otherwise don't follow the procedure precisely, the Fitbit logo reappears quickly and boots without factory reset.

Note that those instructions are for the Versa which has 3 buttons. If you have the Versa 2 (as suggested by the tag in your post) and you've rather not contact customer support then here are the instructions:

  1. Hold the back button for about 8 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo disappears:
    1. Release the button briefly (for less than 2 seconds).
    2. Hold the button again until you feel a second, longer vibration, which indicates you initiated the factory reset.
