Versa 2 connection to Android

Can someone please explain how my Fitbit Versa 2 connects to my smartphone?  I would assume it would be BT... but I can turn off WIFI and my watch fails sync'ing.  It will sync again after fooling around with it and WIFI off.  When I turn WIFI back on, it again fails the sync (red splat).

I ask because I'm coming from a Samsung Gear that gave me my notifications perfectly.  The Fitbit, doesn't.  I'll miss emails/phone calls and it's driving me nuts.  I did multiple "fixes" I've read about on this site, which does seems to help a little.  Please educate me!

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Fitbit connects to your phone via bluetooth, and your phone connects to the main Fitbit database via wi-fi, so both are needed for sync.  Some data can be updated on phone just by bluetooth to tracker, but sync is not truly completed until it has also gone through database in the cloud via wi-fi.

Sometimes there is confusion when a user will be sure they have synced because data is updated on phone, but is not truly synced until it has also connected to cloud.

I couldn't tell you exactly in what sequence information travels where, other than tracker, phone, cloud via bluetooth and wifi.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I have two wifi connections at home one is 2.4 and one is 5.0 and I noticed I can only use the 2.4 connection. Not sure if that helps you.
