I’ve had my Fitbit versa 2 for a while, and only recently I noticed it’s started counting hand movements as steps? If I wash the dishes, fold laundry, etc. It counts them as additional steps. Anyone else? Any ideas?

Hi @mmmmddd these devices are wrist based and if you don't move your arms, you don't seem to get the steps to count. If you push a shopping cart or stroller, hold your arms still, or hold other items in your hands, those steps aren't noticed by your Fitbit. If you notice too many such steps being added to your history, you can remove them from your activity log. If you were a knitter or a drummer, those steps would add up quickly, just as some cars seem to add steps while driving. Are you getting too many steps added? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Probably times you aren't wearing your device and walking a few steps worth.

Hi @mmmmddd, welcome to the Community Forums.
Thanks for your post. Let me share with you that the Fitbit algorithm to track steps is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. Just as @Odyssey13 mentioned, when working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, your Versa 2 may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement —such as the ones described on your post— you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most users, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. However, if you would like to remove them, please follow the steps that are specified on: How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities? and let me know if you have any additional questions.
I'll be around.

Hello,
My Versa 2 counts while I am still. I'll have way over 1000 steps by sitting on the couch. Now when I got it for my Birthday Nov 2020 it worked fine up until these last couple of months. I need it fixed or replaced. I've had it for less than a year. How do I get support to help? No one is answering the chat or phone.

Hi @Cpsparks333 chat or phone support requires a representative to be there and based on where you live, it might be past operational hours.
Fitbit customer support is doing their best, but right now be prepared for longer wait times. Please be patient. Support is limited by the number of representatives available at a given time and the hours of operation. Chat lines are open when they have live help.
