Versa 2 is tracking too many steps

My fitbit versa 2 notified me this morning that I had reached 10000 steps between around 7.45 and 8am this morning....I was just doing a few steps around the house whilst getting ready and had only just but my fitbit on so there is absolutely no way this is accurate. I've tried syncing and it's still showing the steps. Can they be deleted?

@LOLLDUCKETT Thanks for getting back and the update.

Please note you cannot delete steps or floors, but you can achieve the same result by negating them. As suggested above, please see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Regarding your question, we are not sure what might have caused this, but as you said, we would expect this to be a one glitch and I would ask you to keep an eye on your watch, and in the case this happens again, please let me know and I will be glad to further investigate.

Hi there, @LOLLDUCKETT. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Versa 2 before reaching out. I understand where your concern is coming from.

I'm wondering if you're using another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

For additional information, see Does the wrist I wear my device on affect the accuracy? and What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate?

In order to negate the extra steps, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hope that helps.

Hi

Thanks for replying. My fitbit isn't synced to any other devices and I don't use a thing else to track fitness data. I clicked the link for how to delete activities and the info said you can't delete steps of floors. It definitely wasn't slightly over counting general movements, there is no way I did more than 100 steps in the time it counted 10,000. I also added 500 calories to my total for the day. Strange!

It hasn't done it again so maybe it was a one off.

Kind regards

Lorraine
