Versa 2 lost steps after syncing

I had a hard time manually getting the watch to sync to my iPhone 12 max. I ended up turn off my Bluetooth then turning back on. That seemed to sync the Versa 2 but I went from 7900 something steps to 3900 something steps for both the phone and the watch.

it appears all devices are up to date.

Please advise.
