Versa 2’s failure to map run routes

I was wondering how to track my run courses with my Versa 2 watch. My runs with just my watch alone don’t show the route, but runs tracked on my phone do. The Versa 2 doesn’t have any connection issues with my phone. Is there a certain process I must do to turn on my watch’s GPS tracking?
