Does Versa 2 connect to wifi directly for the Alexa connection?

 

Does it stay connected all of the time when in a wifi covered area? 

can I use Alexa without Versa 2 being connected to my phone?

For Alexa, Versa 2 just communicates to your phone via bluetooth, and counts on Alexa app on phone doing the wifi connection to Alexa and passing info back to V2 via bluetooth.

It seems like it should work anywhere you phone connects to wifi, but I haven't actually tried that away from home.

 

So no, you cannot use V2 Alexa without your phone nearby within bluetooth range.

If you are wondering what wifi is used for then,

Ionic, Versa, and Versa 2 use Wi-Fi to set up your watch, download playlists, download apps from the Fitbit App Gallery, and for faster firmware and Fitbit OS updates.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Yes. I was able to play with a V2 today. It looks nice. Not sure if I’d miss the two right buttons though. They were handy. With wifi on the watch V2 should be on wifi all the time and connect to Alexa that way. Having the phone with you all the time is not the most convenient. You also must keep the Fitbit app open and running in the background. If you close it on an iPhone Alexa does not work. Kind of counterintuitive.
