Versa 2 won't sync or downloads

I've been trying for five days to sync and download the necessary items to run this watch. Its turning out to be a complete waste of money. I have tried using mobile data, I've tried it using the home WiFi and still it just keeps disconnecting and states unable to connect when it it only an arms length away from phone.

last effort to get this device working: found a way around this, uninstall and reinstall app. then the update will start once it syncs to versa.
