when trying to do the latest update - my screen stays on the logo with a 3rd of the screen covered with a blue bar - assuming thats the update trying to load - it stays like that until the battery runs out.

I will assume you are talking about a firmware update. It is often recommended to leave tracker on charger while updating as firmware updates can be battery-consuming.

I saw the available update for my versa 2 early October and was reluctant to update it. In the past, my perfectly functioning Fitbit died right after an update. I was convinced it’s Fitbit’s way of forcing consumers to purchase a new one. Their updates actually bug your device and render it useless.
I enjoyed my last Fitbit so much I decided to go against the odds and purchased a new one. Well fast forward two years later(and no more warranty) I saw an available update last month and against my common sense I decided to give Fitbit the benefit of doubt and update it. Well, jokes on me. Right after the update my once fully-functioning Fitbit is useless..again, it is stuck on the clock screen, won’t unlock, won’t do anything but tell the time. Screw Fitbit and their bugged updates to force us into buying new devices. What a waste. I’m going Apple Watch next. Fool me twice. This is the companies way into forcing consumers into purchasing new devices from them.
