Versa 3 and Runkeeper

HI

I have just got my new versa 3. I am excited to use it to link to my run keeper app. I have it connected to my run keeper account, but when i try and listen to the run keeper app on a guided workout or even just tracking my run, the run keeper app just goes to 'activity paused'. Is this an issue with run keeper or have I not connected correctly? I was hoping to hear the run keeper audio on my blue tooth headphones connected to my versa. What am i doing wrong?  Also do i need to have my phone with me out on a run if versa linked to run keeper?
