Versa 3 auto detect exercise

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Versa 3 as my Ionic was recalled! I was really looking forward to recieving this, but I think my Ionic was better, although there are features that I like about the Versa.

I have noticed when I used auto detect for a run it records it, but it does not show on the face of the watch that it's started recording, so I had no idea until I'd finished if it had recorded or not! The recording shows time, but no distance or pace!!

When I start a run from the exercise app it records all I need (pace, distance, HR, map) and also links to my Strava account. The auto detect is not connecting to my Strava account.

Is this how the Versa works, or is mine not working correctly?? If this is how the Versa works, then I am disappointed with it as it doesn't do everything that my previous watch did. I'm thinking I should have got a Garmin!

If it is not set, try turning on "Run Detect" as described below from Versa 3 manual (pdf)

I don't use Strava so can't help you there.

So basically I guess you are saying because you might have use the Exercise App to Start and Stop, it's worth switching to another brand.  The Exercise App does have other advantages, you know it will get the right start and stop times, rather than wondering if it really knew exactly when you started stopped, and never mistakes you slowing down or stopping to tie a shoelace.  And it knows for sure what type of workout you are doing.  And it gives you the options of which stats want to be shown on the screen.

Obviously you know what is important to you, but I personally keep being amazed at what people are willing to give up using the Exercise App for the automation of auto-detect.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

I have run detect on, but once you start moving it doesn't show on the screen of the watch that are you, so you are unsure if it has detected the movement or not!! Auto detect doesn't connect to GPS or show distance which I thought it would....well it does, but in steps rather than miles or kms.

I suggested that I may want to move to another brand as the Versa 3 does not work quite as I thought it would! Maybe I should have looked more carefully before I purchased!

@S_JE20   I used the Run Detect on the Versa and Versa 2.  I haven't tried it on my Versa 3, because of a nagging hip injury that keeps me from running.  I noticed that Run Detect picked up my runs faster with the Versa than the Versa 2.  When I want to use GPS tracking with my Versa 3, it takes a LONG time to connect.  Sometimes it seems like an eternity and I need to move to an open area.  Are you saying that it never detects your run, no matter how long you run?  If you can't get it to connect, I can report a bug.

I am trying to decide if it is worth the discomfort to see if this feature is working correctly or not.
