Welcome to the Fitbit community, @JaneBaker30!
Sad to hear that you Versa 4 isn't working as expected.
I'd suggest trying to restart your device. To do so, please keep it's button pressed for around 10 seconds until you'll hopefully see the Fitbit logo on it's display.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi there, @JaneBaker30. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. I'm sorry to hear that the button on your Versa 3 has stopped working. We're here to help you!
In addition to the steps recommended by @Talahthas, please try placing both forefinger and thumb each side of face and pressing gently, also make sure to cover the entire button with your finger. For more information, see: How do I navigate my Fitbit device?
I've moved your post to the Other Versa Smartwatches board for organization purposes.
Was my post helpful? Give it a thumbs up to show your appreciation! Of course, if this was the answer you were looking for, don't forget to make it the Best Answer! Als...

Thanks for reporting back, @JaneBaker30!
If the back of your device get's too hot to touch, my urgent advice is to immediately stop charging it, stop wearing it and storing it in a fireproof vessel. I suspect that the battery of your device is defective and swollen. This swollen battery could very well be responsible for your device's button not being able to be pressed.
