Versa 3 distance is not accurate

Me and my running partner ran this morning, we both use Versa 3. However our distance was 1km different. We compared our maps on the apps and differences in km calculations started at about 5km. Does this mean one of the devices is faulty?

Hi there, @kennykza. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with the two Versa 3 devices.

As a first approach, I would like to clarify that it's normal that you see a difference when you are comparing your data with another person, this is because Fitbit devices record your data based on your personal information (age, gender, weight and height).

Fitbit devices use the formula below to calculate distance. Your stride length is determined by your height and sex. Steps x Stride Length = Distance Traveled

Please note when you track an activity with GPS, your device calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, your device calculates distance using your steps until GPS connects.

To update your stride length, track a run with GPS or measure your stride length manually. For more information, see Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

For more information about GPS, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?

Hi, I run with another person who also has a Versa 3. Comparing our GPS tracked distances they are normally within about 0.0km to 0.05km over 5km.

Having said that, one one occasion a few weeks ago my watch started recording me as running faster/further than I was. Overall it said the distance was around 5.6km rather than 5km. This was a one-off having used it for over 9 months. I restarted the watch as a precaution and it hasn't done it since.
