Versa 3 stuck on message "Data not cleared, Try & Sync again"

My heart rate sensors were not working consistently so I did a factory reset and unpaired the watch from my phone. Now the watch only shows a red X and says data not cleared and directs me to re-sync, which I cannot do. Help, please!

Hello there, @AmyEileen. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Versa 3 before reaching out. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Please note the message "Data not cleared, Sync & Try again" usually appears when you performed a factory reset without first unpairing your watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings and Fitbit account.

With that being said, please try the following steps in the order listed even if some of them you've done already:

  • Unpair your Versa 3 from your phone's Bluetooth.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth.
  • Set up your Versa 3 again.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Versa 3.

If you can't get started with your Versa 3, usually a missing requirement is the cause. Carefully review the requirements provided in the help article Why can't I set up my Fitbit device?

If you continue having issues with your heart rate monitor, please see What factors can affect my heart-rate reading on my Fitbit device?

This did not work for me.  I followed the steps, completely...

  • Unpair your Versa 3 from your phone's Bluetooth.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth.

However, my Fitbit returns each and every reset to the "Data Did No clear, blah blah" message with the big red X.  Is there a way to Factory Reset the darn watch without the APP?  I'm asking if there's a different button combination to do a Physical Manual reset with the watch itself.  I cannot get past the message, so I can't initiate the factory reset in how it is described here.  PLEASE HELP

Nevermind!  I figured it out by accident, but this isn't in any manual, youtube video or community post that I've found so far.  Essentially, the watch died from low battery.  I connected it to the charger and when it got enough charge to boot-up (5% charge) I got the "data did not clear" message.  A reset after this first message got me the set-up your Fitbit device message on the watch.  That's when I google searched, and I found this community post.  Following the steps all the way to turning on your bluetooth again, the watch would never return to the set-up message again, only the "Data did not clear, etc." message would return.

However, in frustration, and all the fruitless resets, I was holding down the side button the entire time and initiated the Fitbit app again on the iphone.  Even though there was no Bluetooth device found on my iphone (Bluetooth list, since it had been removed), it said found device in the app on the iphone.  This was a surprise since I had removed this Versa 3 from the bluetooth list.  Once I let go of go of the reset (side) button, it started updating!!!

So if you are stuck at the "Data did not Clear" loop, hold down the reset button the entire time and launch the Fitbit app again on your phone.  Don't release the button until the iphone fitbit app discovers it again.  The fitbit logo will cycle through a few times on the watch as you are holding down the button and the iphone app gets fully started.

I'm sure this has happened to others, so I hope this post finds you when you need it 🙂

Sincerely,

The Turbineator
