I have noticed my Versa Lite has been very inaccurate on step counts for a few months now. I have been walking much less due to a recent injury, but my watch will still celebrate meeting my step count almost every day. Many times I'll look and the watch will say I only had around 3500 steps but it's vibrating on the celebratory screen saying I met my step goal. When this happens, the step count will then change on the app to show I have exceeded my step goal.
Today I needed to charge my Fitbit. It had around 2500 steps recorded when I connected it to the charger and set it on my night stand. When I took it back off the charger, it showed more than 6500 steps recorded.
Additionally, a few weeks ago it started showing a substantially elevated heart rate, around 15-20 extra beats, for my resting heart rate.
I have run all the updates but it continues to be inaccurate. I would appreciate any help in correcting this.

You say you had 3500 steps and got celebration for meeting step goal. But what is your step goal? If your step goal is 3500 steps, then that is the correct behavior.

Make sure you haven't added MobileTrack to the account - which tracks steps via the mobile phone.

@LAWilliams Thanks for checking and diligence,
This is how to setup MobileTrack, to use your phone for counting steps
In the phone Fitbit App Click on profile photo [top left] Click on + Set up a Device Select MobileTrack as a device at the bottom |
However you can see if its already setup in two ways
1) If you run the procedure above it won't propose it to be added
2) In the above procedure, after clicking profile photo and
above + Set up a Device, you will see the devices already present
MobilteTrack will appear here, below your Versa Lite
If it is present, click the 3 dots to the right of it and select unpair to remove it.

Versa Lite are known for not surviving a factory reset - so No, Don't do that, ever.
Unless support agrees to replace it if they instruct you to do it.
