Versa Lite tracking steps when I’m not moving.

My versa lite tracks steps continuously when I’m not walking, while I’m sleeping. The only time it stops is when I am charging it. I have done a shutdown and when I turn it back on it continues to do the same. How can I fix this?

Hi @Lajaniec, welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I’m not sure you understand what I am saying. I can set my Versa Lite on the table and sit there and watch the steps add up. Yesterday I took my Fitbit off while sleeping and when I woke up I already had 11,000 steps before 6am. I am very disappointed that you think this is caused by arm movements between activities. Ever since my Fitbit was updated last year I have had charging issues, I use to only have to charge it every 4-5 days now it’s every day sometimes twice. And now it is like a watch that just keeps adding ghost steps ALL day long until I have 30,000 or more. I have had 4 different Fitbit in 8 years, this Versa Lite is only a year and 5 months old. I think I’m done spending my money on products that don’t last more than 2 years. Reading all of these problems on this forum just makes me realize donors are one problem after another!
