I've had an app crash during gym workouts previously (Elliptical) on the Versa but never the run app once in 5 months of training, gps connected of not connected its always been fine.
To my horror yesterady, running my 11th marathon, run app started when the gun went, all working fine, Looked at my screen just prior to the 1km mark and the app had timed out and my clockface was showing. Not cool!!!, I needed the stopwatch but gave up, the damage had been done thank you Fitbit, no use restarting the run app during an event, did the math via the time for the next 41kms but would have been really nice to have a stopwatch.
Back to basics in future events with my trusty old Casio.

This was cut off for me too. 1/2 Marathon Manchester UK 13 Oct and the run app split the event in 2 losing at same time 3 miles. Strava caught it for me though. Yay, go Strava!
When I say cut off? For some time I had been right on fence moving trackers. I now own a Garmin Forerunner 245. I am in process learning how to use & configure it.
It is only time now before Versa1 gets retired. It will become back up. I too have a Surge & a Blaze in my spare tech container.
I did not want to leave FitBit. 1 fail too many pushed me too far.
FitBit events these last 4 or so weeks since iOS 13 upgrade made the decision easier.
Garmin works just fine. Down side is screen fonts. Difficult to read & see.
