Every time I put it in the charger it adds steps. How do I get it to stop doing that?

How many steps are you talking about? Try restarting your Versa several times and see ifbthat stops it. Ifbthere is a source of vibration where you charge though, they could be picking up from that. Let us know how you go

Mine added 4000 steps in a 1.5 hour charge

I left mien charging for two days and forgot to wear it. I put it on the following day and it clocked 40,000 steps while it charge. How do I delete these two days of steps? It's throwing off all my data

Just chiming in here that mine has started doing this, too. The added steps were in the thousands.

Just chiming in. I put my Versa on charge this morning and it logged more than 7000 steps in an hour.

I'm sure this bug that is being worked on already. Simply pausing step tracking while the device is on charge would fix this (unless there is some deeper bug, instead of it just picking up phantom vibrations)

EDIT So upon further testing, the tabletop I was charging on had a slight, nearly imperceivable, vibration from a nearby air purifier. Setting my versa there even without charging causes my step count to skyrocket.

I still think step tracking should be paused when charging, but it seems the cause is vibration.

Just had to charge mine while driving. 4000 steps added in 30 minutes. Even logging that 30 minutes as a drive doesn't remove the steps. This is ridiculous .My Blaze used to add 0, that's zero steps while charging, even while driving .come on Fitbit this can't be impossible to fix. One bit of code if charging == true stepcount_enabled = false or similar. Fix it .

There are many posts on this now.  I returned mine.  10K steps one night, 9K another and might behave itself a third night. They offered to replace it but I feel this is a Versa platform wide problem, not just a select few and I have no confidence a replacement will not do the same thing.  It's unfortunate as I really liked the tracker.  It's also discouraging in that all the threads I've read of this issue, I've yet to see a single Fitbit support post stating that Fitbit recognizes the problem and is investigating it.  I can attest the new firmware does not fix this problem.

To be honest I've not had any issues charging at any other time. Normally when it's charging it's on a table that gets no vibration. My issues are only when I'm charging and driving, although I do recall seeing some people who have said vibrations from a nearby fan have racked up the steps while charging .This is a simple fix .A bit of code in the OS to disable step counting when charging. I can theoretically see a case where someone is charging via a USB power pack and wants their steps still to count, but that has to be 1 case out of thousands. More would benefit from it being completely disabled. As you say, it's sad that not one single Fitbit post has said they're aware of it and working on a fix.

I was trying to do some experimentation but ran out of return period time and couldn't get it to tail reliably.  I was wondering if it might be susceptible to the USB 5V line noise.  I generally use a AC powered USB hub that I also use to charge my phone, headphones, etc.  If I could have gotten it to consistently fail there, I was going to move the charger to the PC USB output and see if that made a difference.  Definitely no vibration issues from my end.  Also, if you suspect a vibration issue, from the dashboard, you can examine your daily bar step graph in detail and if vibration steps, I would think they would show up there.  In my case there were no steps, nor distance associated with a step count, just the steps mysteriously showing up.

You are right, a simple band-aid fix until they can discover the root cause would be to just disable step count during charging but still no indication Fitbit is acknowledging the problem.  Or perhaps they don't wish to publicly acknowledge it until they have a cause and fix in hand.

I think I solved the vibration problem, I just put a cloth down on the table and set the charging versa on that. It seems to be absorbing whatever was causing the extra steps for me. Seems dumb to have to macguyver a solution for a 230$ product, Fitbit should fix this!!

just chiming in here... i usually charge my versa while i drive (i have a 1.5 hour commute each way). the first few times i charged it in the car, it didn't log any steps or flights of stairs. today however, i got a notification that smart track had logged my activity automatically (mountain biking... at 75mph?!) and when i checked my fitbit upon arrival, i had over 4000 steps and 55 flights of stairs! i usually have to log my driving time as exercise since the vibration in my car is crazy, but even that didn't make a difference today.

i know it clearly isn't the end of the world but it bothers me to see my activity logged so inaccurately.

I got 27,000 between midnight and 5 am. Fitbit told me to not charge it near a fan, which I was, but even after moving it to charge, I still get mega steps.  Makes my challenge partners think that I’m cheating 😞

I just noticed that my charger is next to a desk fan! Genius.  I will try to charge somewhere else and I am sure the steps will not be adding.

My Versa 2  added over 25,000 steps when it was over night charging. There was nothing on the table to cause to add Ghost steps. I did restart my watch, but the Ghost steps were still there.
