Versa heart rate sensor has stopped working

The heart rate sensor on my Versa stopped working a couple days ago. I've tried every troubleshooting article: turning it on/off with resets in between... restarts, shutdowns, and even a factory reset.

I contacted customer support via chat, and they responded quickly. But after sending me a couple links to the same troubleshooting articles I'd already been through, they took me through warranty verification, and after confirming that it's over a year old they didn't offer any other suggestions. There was no acknowledgement that it might be a software issue in a recent firmware update or some other problem that I have no control over. Just a "we'll send you a 25% discount code for a new device".

Without the heart rate sensor it's useless for my sport training, and I need something to replace it, but I'm hesitant to spend more money on a device that's going to fail after the first year, with no option for repair. I'm even more worried when it seems like there are lots of other users with the same problem, and this is just going to keep happening if I get a new one.

If anyone has any other troubleshooting suggestions, I'm game, especially if there's some way of rolling back to an earlier version of the firmware that might not have the problem. Thanks.

Follow up: Apparently due to the lack of heart rate monitoring, the activity tracking isn’t working correctly either, and my calorie counts are way off. So all that’s left is a watch that needs to be charged daily.
