Versa is counting WAY too many floors

A few days ago my Versa, which I have been using for 11 months now, started wildly overcounting floors. This morning, for instance, it's only 11am and it claims I have 58 floors.  The actual count should be TWO.  I've searched the forums for answers and haven't found a solution.  It's not the weather -- this has been happening every day consistently for 4 or 5 days now -- and it's not unusual activity that could logically throw it off, like riding a motorcycle -- it's routine days around the house.  I've cleaned the back of the watch carefully, cleaned the altimeter port itself carefully, and rebooted repeatedly.  Nothing has changed the wildly erratic overcounts.  Does anyone have any more suggestions for how to fix this problem or will it need to be returned under warranty?

Stair count was totally accurate until a few days ago -- I'm certain of this because I routinely monitor my stair count.  Step count, distance, etc. still appear to be accurate despite the extreme inaccuracy of the stair count now.

I wasn’t offered a replacement. Here’s hoping yours works correctly. It’s obvious they have a manufacturing problem. My previous Blaze counted floors correctly. Too bad it eventually failed to hold a charge or I would have happily kept it.

A few days ago my Versa also started wildly overcoming floors climbed. I have had this fitbit for less than a year. Who helped you with your issue?

Best Answer
Nobody really. I’ve given up. There were reports of replacements but I wasn’t offered one and the techs I talked to had no cure. My previous Blaze worked perfectly. I pointed that out to them but they had no answer as to why it did and the new Versa doesn’t.

I was sent a replacement bug it did the exact same thing on both of my senses too. My ionic Fitbit never had that issue. They have stopped responding to me and I have not seen the new replacement they promised.

They have a real problem and they simply are not dealing with it. I certainly won’t buy another Fitbit product. And I certainly wouldn’t recommend them.

Ugh…I am having the same issues….up to 55 floors a day! What did you do to get it fast tracked?

Karlar31 I have been doing LiveChats with Fitbit to problem solve. So far i did a factory reset and a new firmware update. Hopefully this works, but we shall see. Not fixed as of yet, but customer service has been easy to deal with so far!

Hi @AlvaroFitbit, I am facing the same issue on my Versa 3 that I have been using for 7 months now. It is over-estimating floors by a LOT! I have been regularly monitoring my floor count, and comparing it against my partner, whose fitbit charge gives accurate results (we have the same workout schedule). For e.g., it gave 24 floors today when it should only be 2. I contacted customer support but unfortunately had a poor experience. Could I request you for your help/guidance in pointing me in the right direction?

I'm having the same situation.  Way over counts. Showing 600-1000 floors a week!

I did just that and it worked for 2 months before it started happening again with the new replacement. I'm beginning to think it's a defect with the Versa 3's in general. My Versa 2 nor did my Ionic ever do that.

I had a Blaze which counted floors correctly but unfortunately the batter died. Bought a Versa 3 expecting the same accuracy. But it counts far too many floors like everyone else’s. Tried customer service. Bad experience because they simply will not admit they have a problem. “Even wind can affect the count”. I don’t have a wind storm in my house between my bedroom and bathroom. A walk there can produce 3 floors! It simply doesn’t count remotely sensibly. Currently says 73 floors. Real number would be 11. Can’t be the algorithm because updates haven’t helped. So I assume the sensor is the problem.

They gladly gave me a replacement twice, so I had a positive customer experience where they did acknowledge that something wasn't right. Unfortunately, they are just frontline representatives and cannot correct the problem at its core with the Versa 3 counting too many floors. As long as everything else is functioning fine, I'm okay with the crazy floor count. Unless I'm actually climbing Everest, the Effiel Tower or even the CN Tower and want to see an accurate representation, then I will deal with the glitch/defect.

Can a problem be handled like this if we've tried calling AND chatting, only to be told "Sorry to hear about your issue, we're working on it and sorry about ya," every time you speak to someone? I just got my Versa 3 last week and it seems this has been an issue for a while and still isn't fixed. I have a lack of faith now. My older Fitbits, the charge and charge 2, were still working fine but I upgraded and started a whole new account. My Versa 3 has me at 65 floors today... most of which were gained while sitting here... at my computer. My most recent chat got disconnected by the support person, Geraldine, before I was even done typing to see if I could get a replacement. When I called, the guy couldn't wait to get me off the phone. That's just extremally bad customer service. Seems you are the only one trying to actually help people.

I called about 3 times until someone acknowledged that they had heard of the issue and if it were under the manufacturer's warranty, (mine was 9 months in), I could just replace it. They did. I wish I could say I had a good amount of time to test out the replacement, but I only had for for a bit before I upgraded to the Sense through my work. Sense works fine, battery life sucks with all of the added sensors, but I'm happy with it overall. I would say just keep trying until you get the right person, I know it's frustrating, but it could pay off.

I have to say that there is a problem with the versa 3.

I had the first one replaced under warranty with this same issue.

The replacement is displaying the same too many floors problem.

Today, it has me at 206 floors 10.07 miles, 21987 steps and 3780 cals burnt

I know that there is no way I climbed 206 floors today between mowing the lawn and assembly some furniture.

I see a day it had me at 46 floor and 3192 steps, not sure hour that is possible.

Looks like mine has bad for some time now

recently replaced my Versa 2 with a Versa 4 (my 3rd Fitbit) and am sorry to see this issue continues to persist. I am always happy to see my Fitbit show 3 digits in floors (when I legitimately earn them of course) but on days like today where I've barely done more than a slow paced walk (0 zone minutes, probably 0 above 110 to be honest) am at 59 and its not even lunch yet.

I've come to rely on my Fitbit so much, and this experience is quite discouraging... if this is wrong and inaccurate, what else is? Do I really need to go buy a more expensive alternative in an Apple or Garmin device? I hate having loyalty rewarded so badly... I mean google owns them now, shouldn't that make their products better rather than just providing Google with some patents they can use in their own watch (which has been seriously condemned by most reviewers it seems)
