Versa is double counting miles

My walk to the station is 1.6 miles or roughly 3,200 steps. The steps are showing correctly, but the miles have registered as 3.16 miles, This is more or less double, what I’d expect to see. As I was running late, I did jog some of it, not all, could this impact the mile reading?

BACKGROUND ON ME

I am 5’10” a weigh 11stone 10lbs

I have set my own bespoke walking stride length to 31.9”, but never for running this has just been increased in line with Fitbit standard running stride to 45.9”.

Oddly enough now I have reverted to Walking my last 500 steps have measured 0.24 miles which seems right. It just seems to be the walk/jog first thing this morning.

Any takers out there to help me out!

Thanks

Update from Fitbit - After 5 days looking at what is going wrong I am pleased to say that Fitbit will be sending me a replacement Versa.

Great customer service and they have been very helpful through out. Let’s hope the replacement does not have the same fault.

It's great to see you around @SunsetRunner.

Can you please tell me how are you registering your activities? Are you manually logging any type of activity that might be doubling your information? In the meantime, you can try to restart your watch by doing the following:

  1. Press and hold the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen. This should take less than 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons.

Let me know the outcome. Man Happy

Hi @AlejandraFitbit

I am not logging the activity as this is a Versa it automatically recognises the activity.

The issue is I did not walk 3.16 miles I walked 1.6 miles. Whether I ran or walked the miles is irrelevant 1.6 miles cannot become 3.16 miles.

I can try a reset, but is this a flaw on Versa that needs to be looked at.

Thanks

Hi @AlejandraFitbit

So today I walked 3030 steps, but my Versa has calculated the distance to be 2.5 miles. I would say this is more like 1.5 miles.  This just can’t be right.

I tried a reset as suggested yesterday, and this did not sort the problem I see no point in doing another reset today.

Any suggestions!!

As the moderators are no longer replying to this thread and the issue is not resolved, I can confirm that I raised this via the Fitbit Support chat facility.

Fitbit have now confirmed from looking at my data that the Versa and App are logging incorrect data in some instances doubling the miles I have actually walked, compared to what they can see on the servers.

They have confirmed it is a bug and is being looked into, fingers crossed it is resolved, or maybe they’ll send me a replacement....not!!!!!!

Hi @AlejandraFitbit, I seem to be having the same problem as @Beany71. I previously had a Flex 2 and it always worked. I just got the Versa Special Edition last week and it seems to double my miles. For example I"m just over 12k steps and I am showing 10.2 miles. My flex2 had me close to 11k steps to show 5 miles. I've tried resetting several times - any other ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Hi @AlejandraFitbit

Fitbit gave me a full refund and before that I’d already changed to the Garmin 5s. No problems with that watch.

The Versa just isn’t fit for purpose.
