Versa is over-counting my steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My fitbit versa says I did over 368,000 steps today. I already tried restarting it. Didn't help. I shut it down and turned it back on. Didn't help. Any other suggestions?

Hi there @Donnap2, welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for letting me know that your Versa isn't counting your steps accurately and for taking the time to troubleshoot it prior to posting here.

May I know if this happens when doing certain activity? Your watch has a finely-tuned algorithm that looks for intensity and motion patterns to track your steps. However, your watch may add some steps when performing other activities that involve arm movements, such as working or cooking, to give you credit for those steps. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

If you feel that your step count and distance are still inaccurate, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Sometimes, when you start walking, your steps may not update on your device right away. After about 10-15 continuous steps, you'll notice the steps catch up and start updating in real time with each step you take.

I'm looking forward to your response, keep me posted.

Not only is my versa not counting my steps correctly, it has now stopped reading my heart rate (I tried all the troubleshooting suggestions in the manual) and the screen wake motion feature has quit working. I have to push the button to see the screen, which is very inconvenient.

I’m having the same problem with my husband’s Versa 2. His steps always exceed my steps logged on my Charge 3, even though I walk more than he does. He is a sedentary person and though we walk 2 miles daily, he sits in the car while I run into the grocery stores. Please check the Versa 2 because it is over counting steps.
