Versa losing GPS connection when locking Android phone.

Hey all 🙂

I'm having a weird issue that I am hoping I can get some insight on.

I have a versa and a galaxy s7 with the latest software.

Whenever I want to start an exercise activity, I open the biking exercise screen on the versa. It says connecting for however long, then it connects. Cool. No issues.

BUT .. as soon as I lock the screen on my phone, it disconnects from the versa and stops recording my exercise. If I open the versa, it shows connecting with no end.  If I open up my cell phone, the versa will connect to it .. And the process repeats itself over and over. I can't figure out why it's doing this.

Any insight would be great:)

Thanks gang.

Final update I hope - just went on a cycle and connected GPS worked fine and I got my first full track of a ride!

Definitely the Samsung "Device Care" power mode that had tripped me up!

Thanks for this. I have a pixel but it also has a battery saver feature. My versa was losing connection after I locked it even though I gave the Fitbit app access to location all the time. After your post I tried taking it off battery saver mode first and it had no issues staying connectedeconnected after locking it.  Tried it with battery saver on and it loses connection as soon as I lock it.

I know this is an old thread, but I was running into this issue too (connected GPS only working while my phone was unlocked and the app was open, and disconnecting as soon as I locked the phone screen), and I thought I'd share the solution I just found. The problem was that I had set the "Location" permission for the Fitbit app on my phone to "Allow only while using the app" rather than "Allow all the time." As soon as I changed the setting to "Allow all the time," the issue disappeared.

My Fitbit device is a Versa Lite; my phone is a Moto G7 play running Android 10.

Just want to reiterate francisfeingold  I changed the "location" permission to "allow all the time" and when I go for walks the GPS worked fine.

Samsung A50, Versa 2

Thanks for the tip. Having my Fitbit app "optimized" allows the connection while my phone ils locked. I can't figure why but since the tracking works it's okay.
